This is Only for those who bought their ITR new. Why the color you picked?
Pretty simple, for what reason or reasons did you choose the color of your first ITR? This really only applies to ITR owners, I also guess it's for 00 and 01... Because 97 and 98s on had that one horrible color

I gotta hear why, I still can't figure out why I picked PY over black...
For those who bought theirs used... I'm pretty sure money was the deciding factor along with location.

Reason I picked Py over the black was because I didnt want to see swirl marks and that matching the paint in case of an accident might of been an issue and black in Orlando especially Florida will be unbearable during the summer. So Py was the choice.
No choice.... only comes in CW.
but even with choices.... I would still pick CW. it's rare and go nice with red interior.

2000 PY...
I wanted CW, but since it wasn't available in the US for 2000, I decided on PY - not so much for the flash factor, but mainly because at the time I had no garage, and I was concerned about the upkeep of a black vehicle. While black looks really great, almost like glass when clean and shiny, and really nice at night as well, I didn't want to deal with it showing everything including every little swirl mark.
I don't regret choosing PY at all, it's a sharp color, but sometimes I look at the FBP and *drool*

It was the only color they had LOL. If I had a choice Id still have chosen black, unless CW was an option. I wouldnt have been too disappointed with PY though.
I would have chosen a CW had it come here. But in 2001 I chose black because I thought yellow would be broadcasting to thieves and I thought yellow would get less attention from cops.

I didnt buy my car new but still had a choice of colour as i looked at approx 12 JDM ITRs on the one day, mainly CW but seen a few black ones, a silver one and a red one. The silver one was nice, had quite a few quality mods, the black one had a full mugen kit on it including mugen exhaust/header/intake and was in my price range but i just wanted a CW one as i had just sold a black JDM Si-VTEC and was tired of black and always considered CW to be the true colour of any type-R badged car, so kept looking till i found the car i currently own...and it turned out top have more extras than any of the rest i had looked at and i managed to get it at trade price (the price one dealer will sell to another at...basically the cost price of the car, not retail which was about $2000 less than the then retail price)
I wanted a Black one but the only two i found were spoken for and being stored at the dealers (on the showroom floor) through the winter
I didn't look too far outside of the 7-8 area dealers, guess I could have looked harder. That's how I got a PY. Loved the color for a long time, but now I just can't take driving a yellow car anymore. Think I'll stick with red or black or grey cars from now on.
Chris - who likes the look of the PY R, but doesn't enjoy driving a yellow car much anymore.

wanted a 97 white with old front, but didn't have money to purchase new. In 2000 i was able to purchase the newer style front end with the better color PY new with only 8 miles on the car.
same reason some other guys above wanted black; less attention. attention is nice sometimes, but for the sake of a car, sometimes it's not a pleasant thing. i think if i personally had a yellow itr, it might be gone by now.
*knocking on wood desk right now*

BUT, caring for either a cw or py itr would have been SO much easier.
kepani-who thinks the black itr owners should've got a "pain-in-da-455-to-clean" discount from acura.

my first choise would have been cw...if it was avaliable in 2000, but it wasnt...
so i picked PY. Reason is because black is abit harder to keep up, and the yellow snatched my eye.......pluse the yellow was avaliable before the black one at the dealer....

Started looking for a black R in November of '99. Put in deposits at four dealerships in NC. Then, I got a call from a very nice salesman from Performance Acura in Chapel Hole, NC. I was first on their waiting list, but he invited me to come out and look at the black R they had on the lot, awaiting delivery.
So I went and looked, drooled, whatnot. A week later the salesman calls me back - turns out the guy that had the deposit on that caR decided to wait for a yellow one. I drove the car home a few days later on December 13, 1999.
And that's how I ended up with Flamenco Black Pearl 00-0009

I know you said applies to new owners...but what the hell
I picked mine because of the rarity of the 97's being the first USDM Type R. Second, I feel the CW paint color is more appropriate to the specific Type R and the racing heritage that it has stemmed from i.e. being the little brother of the NSX-R which first was only available in CW. The black and the yellow R's are fine, but feel the CW color better represents what Honda was saying with this car.
Aloha,
Brandon

I just didn't see myself driving a yellow car. Nothing against the color, just color and attitude at the time clashed. Black it was.
i love all 3 colors, CW first, yellow second and black third. however, i'm very happy with my PY. between the three, it is the most recognizable "signature" color that designates the ITR. unfortunately, this bonus also has its bad sides with theft and the law. PY itr owners i feel need to be more careful because of the added attention.
rob, i bought used but i could have bought any color. i paid very close to sticker for my used one so money was not a factor nor location. i had my choice of all 3 colors. i just loved the black color, looks so sweet when clean. yellow just wasn't me cause its too stunna style. i would have bought white but they seemed to disappear around. unfortunately my black one did too

nbp only cause i could not find a 97-98 in the price/location that worked for me.
cw and py unique to the itr were as fbp and nbp are common honda/acura. you can still get cars painted nbp.
