Default 4th gen cat suggestions

My cat is clogged, i need a new one. Anyone know a quality cat for a cheap/decent price? Im pretty limited on funds, but any suggestion is welcome.

thats pretty much an oxymoron for performance parts in general. if you want quality, buy OEM. if you want cheap, go ebay. Now, finding something in the middle is tricky. I have posted similar threads asking peoples opinions on CATs. some say carsound, some say catco...they can be had on average of what i have seen, for $100. Of course with those i've read posts of people needing to replace them every once a year. I would buy OEM, but that may be out of your budget, i know it's outa mine.

yea, i know its a oxymoron hahaha, when i finally get to start working on my car, its always quality > quanitity. Thing is, im pretty strapped on money, and my car is accelerating like ****, jerky as hell, and to be honest, just took the fun out of driving. Some im looking for a sound middle, if possible.

get a magnaflow cat on ebay. they are universal 2.5" inlet/outlet. goes for around $55. probably better quality than "carsound" or "catco".

hes referring to something like this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...33629

keep in mind youll have to weld flangs on the end of it.
i still hear people complain about magnaflow. but do a search on it, research for yourself.

Yes, this is probably a better example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

A shop will have to weld it for you...im assuming you have a stock exhaust which is either 2" or 2.25" not sure. If you have an aftermarket thats 2.5" then you're set.

Also I stick to magnaflow quality. They have been around much much longer in the exhaust world than many other import upstarts....and they make really mean exhausts for domestics. I've never heard a better sound out of imports with their mufflers than any other exhaust system (including greddy, apexi, etc.). Magnaflow is the only exhaust I've heard that make imports sound much deeper.

that magnaflow says its not compliant with california standards. is that for only obd2 applications? also on the 4th gen ludes, isnt the o2 sensor in the cat/near it or whatever and would need the o2 bung? it states it doesnt have one, so would it work ?

on 92-95 ludes (obdI), there are no o2 sensors on the cat, just on the down pipe of the exhaust manifold.

on the 96 ludes (and all 5th gen ludes), i am pretty sure that there is a 2nd o2 sensor for the cat.

i've heard of mixed but mostly good things about random cats

I also bought a $40 cheap brand from ebay. The brand was Ractive. Works perfectly and sounds great w/ my invidia exhaust. Welds were good and fit very well.

aight heres what i did when i got my exhaust, my cat was clogged beyond believe. So we just took a resonator the guy had layen around and welded it on with the 2.25" piping and my Ractive Muffler. Sounds really cool, not ricy, and nice and deep.

you could do that, get ready for some clean up. We punched out the cat on our ford ranger work truck when some of us got bored at work. There was a huge cloud of black smoke and chunks of ceramic flew everywhere (i was laughing so hard it took 30secs to breath). So be carefull, make sure your neighbors aren`t watching, and don`t get caught ($5000 fine in cali)
