Building the car - Suggestions on Header and Exhaust systems for an STS class car
Would like to get suggestions on Header and Exhaust systems for an 98 Integra GSR running in STS.
Following are my priorities.
Looks/aesthetics are not important.
I am not running at national level so price is an important consideration and very minute performance details can be overlooked for a better price.
Its daily driven street car, so to the extend possible I would like to get a decent sound ( => read not so loud)
I want to be within the rules
These are the major rules, I know of from the SCCA site regarding header and exhaust for STS class.
Exhaust system downstream of CAT can be modified => Stock CAT cannot be changed
Emission-legal headers possible
Emission legal modifications to Engine management system, either electronic or mechanical, but not both.
Engine and transmission must remain unmodified, including emissions equipment
Thanks everyone

just FYI emisions legal headers does not mean CARB. Your car just has to be able to pass emisions so pretty much any header will work for you.

maybe he's in CARB crazy krazyfornia?
can't beat a DC header and a 2.5" catback

Keeping the stock cat in the stock location really limits the amount of power you are going to pick up with a header
The $$ may be better spent in suspension

True, but whacking 25lbs off the nose of the car (OEM vs DC 4-2-1 SS) is just as much of an improvement.
And you will pick up some torque with a 4-2-1 over the oem boat anchor, even with a stock cat.

If you want a good.........no, great header for a GSR contact Metalworker on this forum. Walt builds an awesome header........

Is the SS DC header significantly lighter than the ceramic one? (sorry for the thread jack, but the ceramic is cheaper so it may help you too

weld on a flange for the cat and your good. Cost is around 575 but if you are doing limited mods that it's money well spent IMO

That or bisimoto is what I plan on trying on my d-series motor later this year.

no it's an an-r
they are all made by the same guy basically who works for rage now.
The bisi is supposed to be a better design but I have never had them on a dyno back to back.
The bisi like I said may be a better choice I just could'nt say for sure.

I prefer RMF. He is the originator of that design, and purged welds > non-purged welds.

I don't remeber seeing any RMF headers on the top grid for the last all motor category race I went to

Just because not many people know of it doesn't mean its bad.
Perfect example are the headers walt makes which are mentioned above. If you're not an IT racer or around many that are you probably would never hear of him.
I'd just like to know who this other alternative is so I can try and find out.

Did you miss Erick Aguilar(sp)? He also made Bisi's headers for the D series car. I know I know, this is the RR/AutoX forum.

Randy Monroe Fabrication
Would you guys like to guess what AN-R stands for? I'll give you a hint; the AN is for Andrew Nguyen, the owner.

Oh btw, just in case you guys don't get what I am saying. If you are running an AN-R or Bisimoto header, you are running a Randy Monroe header that is made by Steve Brown. Steve was Randy's apprentice and he still uses RANDY"S jigs to make his headers.
Do a search if you don't believe me. This has been covered many times in the All Motor forum. You can even call Andrew and ask him if you want.

These headers being discussed are in the $600 and $700 range!!!!!
What would be the difference (in power, durability or whatever) between these and a regular DC header in the $300 range?
Probably these are for dedicated race cars and not for my category ????
Any suggestions on the exhaust system by keeping the original CAT???

I would also be very interested in seeing a Dyno chart on these headers before I spent that kind of money. As these are designed for Drag racing, I would bet they are designed to extract top hp at the top end of the rev's. Not exactly the best for an autocross car. Just another thought.
Then they certainly would be worth looking into when trying to get that last little bit of power available.
There are other options with custom headers as well. Dave of SMSP is another great choice. His headers are a little more expensive though and his wait time tends to be a little longer. His stuff is well worth the price and wait as well.
Both Randy and Dave are members here and are friends of mine. Dave even posts quite frequently in this section as he is a road racer. IIRC, he is currently building an H1 car.
Feel free to PM both of them. Their usernames are RMF and SMSP. They are both great guys and will be more than willing to answer any questions you have.
