I was having some weird problems with my exhaust. It was making weird rattleing noises when ever i would switch gears in between 4-5K rpm and also makes noises when I hit like 60-70 mph. I took the car down to a muffler shop this morning and they could not find what was wrong with it. They said that something under the interior panels might be loose and thats causing the noise but that does not make sense to me. To me it clearly sounds like it is coming from the muffler but we checked and the muffler is not hitting the body or the rear bumper. I have a magnaflow muffler with a tip. I dunno if any of you might of had some kind of experience like this. Do you guys think I should just get a new muffler. Also what are some pretty cheap mufflers that sound nice and not too loud. The piping and the resonator all seem fine and we took off the cats heat shield but it didnt make a difference. Any comments are welcomed. By the way I know a lot of people say this is normal on an integra but my car didnt do that until about a month ago.

i'd betcha it's the notorious header rattle that alot of integra's have problems with....as does mine.....i'm not sure exactly what pipe it is, but do a search and you'll find something...get a aftermarket header, cuz i think repairing the stock one isn't worth it for the money

I know about the header noise is and im almost 100 percent sure that is not it. My car never used to do that up until last month. Im sure it has to do with the piping or the muffler I just dont wanna change the muffler and have the same problem but that may be the only way to find out. They checked the hangers and everything it all seemed fine they even think the muffler is fine but to me its clearly sounds like it comes from the back of the car.

It is rubbing against something, look under the car and check everything to see if there are any marks from exhaust vibration which should leave a mark of somesort.

have you checked for exhaust leaks around the weldings to the muffler? or the weldings to the cat? if thats not it, it sounds like, somewhere along the exhaust, something is touching. get under and make sure it is vibrating against something.

I'd also check that, Thats what my problem was, I went back to the shop and the put me infront of like 10 other cars and pulled me in and fixed it free within like 5 min
The again that was my problem, I also have another problem,
I dont know how to explain it but, The rod for the shifter, like when you push to shift into 3rd the rod underneath the car ( I dont know how to explain it
, but that is loose on my car and around 3k RPM it rattles, so loud that when im in traffic I can hear it echoing off the other cars, and even when im not it traffic I can here it inside my car

Check where the exhaust comes over the back axle. There are suspension links coming from the body to the axle. When the car is on the ramp the susp drops to full stretch and these links move outwards. Look under the car when it's on the ground, maybe the exhaust is touching the link. This happens on my car, even more so since I lowered it, because the links move further towards the exhaust the more the suspension is compressed. I've compensated for this by simply pushing the rear box over and securing the rubbers in such a way that it cant move back to the link. Sometimes though if there are a few passengers in the car it will rattle a bit, as obviously the susp compresses more.

There are rubber bushings in the ends of the shift stabaliser rod, which I think is what you're talking about. Get under, take the rod out and replace the bushings, they shouldn't be too expensive.

Is your exhaust a 2 piece, starts at cat then then splits at axle? If it is try taking off the exhaust after the axle, and see if it rattles. If it Still does then you know it's in the first section, other wise it's in the axle back part of the exhaust.

well we checked everything for rattleing and it for sure is not that and i dont understand how the welding can have anything to do with a rattleing noise. well either way i got a cheap deal on a new muffler and i went ahead and bought it.

It is a no name brand muffler, 2.5" inlet, stainless steel, silencer, 3.5"tip.
Hope this fixes the problem cause im almost positive its coming from the muffler

that n1 canister will probably drown out the rattling noise.. but it may not fix the inital rattling problem.
how many miles does your teg have on it? the lower apipe has been known to be a source of annoying rattling.. mine would rattle at 3-4k rpm with ~140k miles on this used gsr lower apipe i was borrowing... (sounds like a raspy metallic "bbZZZttt" like a piece of sheet aluminum in ur bicycle spokes for a few seconds.. Very annoying!!) i just replaced the lower portion with my orig. one, less than 75k miles on it, and it was good as fixed..

while your car is on the rack try to move it back n forth, check see if all the necessary hangers are being used. most likely if u wiggle it from side to side u'll be able to hear where its coming from. if all else fails check and make sure your shift lever and exh. piping isnt rubbing together. mines did that because they had to custom it and they left that stupid looking u clamp on there
