I've searched the archives, but an article on this specific problem was not found. Was wondering what others feel about this one. Working on a 1994 Accord 173/K miles. Auto trans services at every recommended interval. Car starts and runs fine in all weather. On expressway cruising at 65 mph, rpms are a little high. If you press the gas a little, the TC overdrive locks in, and the rpms go down. If you let up on the gas, the TC lock up comes off and the rpms go back up. This is causing very poor gas mileage. If your on a 2 lane road going about 40 - 45 mph and press the gas there is a slight thump as the car momentairily wants to go into OD lock, then doesn't as it realizes its not going fast enough. I have NO D4 light at all. Tranny otherwise shifts normally and the car drives perfectly. I've run it through its paces looking for anything else that does not feel right and have found nothing. The Honda Service manual says this is caused by a faulty Gear Position switch. I've removed this switch (which is a BPITA by the way), and cleaned it then tested it and it works perfectly. All other indicator light errors in the shop manul are for blinking D4 or other lights. This D4 is just plain out. I've been fighting the flu all darn week, and have not had a minute to go out and check the solenoids, I will try to get to them this weekend. But short of them not giving a correct OHM reading and clicking when power is applied indicating they may be a problem, I'm open for things to check. Throttle Position Sensor??? The TMC is clean and dry, all connections are good. Don't have the tool to get any code though, but want to check as much as I can before taking it to a shop so I can tell them what it isn't.
First time poster here, seems like a lot of knowledgeable people on this board, so maybe someone can help me--
I am having the EXACT same problem w/ my '94 Accord LX w/ 150k miles. I only have a 20 minute drive to work, and when on the highway going 65mph the engine revs about 2800 rpm, 3000 rpm if I'm going 70. However, when I take take long highway trips (esp. in warmer weather) it does go into overdrive. Unfortunately, this does affect gas mileage. The transmission was replaced by the orig owner at about 120k. I recently had the tranny fluid done. Otherwise, the car drives great. My D4 light does in fact work. I always drive in D4 unless I'm going down a mountain road at lower speeds, then I'll use D3.
Thanks for any advice!

Looks like nice weather tommorrow, I'm going at those solenoids.
And I did. Those wire connectors are a BTCH! Anyway, all solenoids tested good for resistance and all of them gave a good click when power tested. Ironically, the wife told me every time she's driven it in the last 4 or 5 days, the D4 light has been on and its shifted properly. Its been warm here, relatively speaking, and we're now wondering if the cold had something to do with it, or maybe I did just clean of reseat the right thing. who knows.

My problem is simular. The first 6 miles I drive the RPM is at 2600 for 60mph
Then the RPM goes to 2300 for 60mph. I am guessing the fluid is warming up and causing this to happen. Not a big problem but I wonder if your problem could be fluid related. My fluid is still being flushed. Purchased the car at 114,000 and it looks like the fluid was never changed. Have changed the fluid twice and have a third scheduled. 2.5 quarts changed each time so I figure about 90% fluid change after the next change. Maybe this is just the recent cold weather? Maybe it is the fluid that needs more flushing? Anyone else experience this?

Well.... its not weather related. Yesterday it was sunny and warm and the wife dropped off our daughter at a job fair and when she was leaving to go visit her mom, the D4 light was out. On the way home it was back on. So I must have a loose connection somewhere.
