Default Unorthodox Crank Pulley, does it replace the dampner?

We just replaced the timing belt on my 91 Si, which caused damage to the dampner.

Does the Unorthodox Crank pulley replace the dampner? Or does it bolt on to the dampner?

Jeff
Needs to know very quickly. Trying to get ready for a race this weekend.

Well, it replaces it in the sense of takes-its-place, but not the entire function.

The OEM crank pulley is actually an assembly of two pieces of metal bonded together with a thin rubber "ring". If you take it off, you will see that on the outside is the zinc washed side, but from the backside there is an inner black ring of metal separated by the rubber. That's the dampener part/s.

(Note: this applies to the Si/D16A6, the lesser Civic/CRX models had solid crank pulleys. Presumably since they had lower output engines that didn't generate harmonics strong enough to warrant being damped.)

The Unorthodox piece is a one-piece/solid Al crank pulley, any dampening you get is whatever 0.5lbs of Al can give you.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try like crazy to find the Unorthodox pulley tomorrow, hopefully I will find one in stock locally.

Does anyone in, or near, San Diego have the Ultra R Unorthodox Crank pulley for a stock 91 Civic Si for sale?

Jeff

I've heard some really bad things about these pulleys. Search around a bit more for the negative affects. One really reputable engine builder on here had his bearings destroyed win he added this mod, MistaBone, D-series tranny guru. - Free plug
