Default Think'n of picking up a GSR have some Specific questions

Hello, i am new here, and am currently investigating my options on vehicals, here are my concerns and things i am looking for in a vehical.

1. 30+ avg. mpg
2. Good in all weather conditions including snow/ice
3. enough power to pull long steep hills in 5th gear, as well as pass w/o shifting down.

Having said that here are my questions... first i will ask about weather conditions and driving a gsr in them... i remember hearing that gsr's came stock with a lsd... is this true? if not i guess i could look into purchasing one but may sway me to not get an integra...

now the power and gas mileage can go hand in hand cause usually when you get a car w/ power you can't get 30+mpg... but i have pretty extensive experiance w/ turbocharging and would possibly install a small quick spooling "low flowing" turbo for passing and pulling steep hills in 5th gear.

having said this what kind of gas mileage are you turbo guys getting? i know you probly can't say what kind of gas mileage you would get if you were driving like your grandmother but hey its worth a shot...

any help on this would be great
Danny

The stock LSD is in the type-r in America, I really don't think you are going to be passing much in 5th gear uphill.

You will find it difficult to get 30mph on the GSR with any driving style. Although compared to other cars in its category, the GSR performs relatively well as far as mpg goes.
JDM GSR trannies are lsd-equipped, USDM are not. LSD would be/is a great purchase.
Lots of turbo users report same (if not slightly better) gas mileage with their turbo setups. I dunno how to explain this, but its what I hear.
With the right tires, a GSR is as easy to drive in poor weather conditions as any other car. With that said, make sure you have the right tires. I'm running some shitty Kumho Ecsta 712's right now, 75% traction, and I'm all over the place.

I think you could get about 30 mpg, but you will not be passing much in 5th gear going uphill. GSRs don't have much low-end horsepower or torque. What's wrong with shifting to 4th? I believe that the LSD came only in Integra GSRs out of the US.

I'm not sure you are going to find many cars that pass easily going uphill in their highest gear, infact I'm willing to bet almost no n/a car anywhere near the class of the integra can. It's a somewhat common question, but irrelavent; just shift if you need to speed up. On long highway drives, 30mph+/- is probably feasable, especially if you have a better flowing intake/exhaust.
When you turbo a car, you use much more fuel. The gas mileage will directly relate to basically your injectors and their duty cycle and how much you boost. However, since the stock fuel maps are never perfect, a professional tuner can tune your 'off boost' fuel/ignition more precisly resulting in theorhetically better gas mileage if you are not boosting. Gas mileage is usually not a prime concern after you spend 4k+ turboing the car purely for performance.
The car will drive in bad conditions similar to any other FWD car. Predictable but the usual difficulty [minimal] going uphill from a stop in bad rain/ice/etc.
It sounds like you may be more interested in an automatic accord or something where less effort is involved.

if you do a lot of highway driving, 30 mpg is not hard to achieve. I have gotten better than 30mpg during highway roadtrips. You'd be surprised at the fuel economy of a GS-R if you don't push it hard.

I drive my teg all year round unfortunately and being in Ontario, Canada means we get a lot of snow and with a good set of winter tires, the teg does really well in snow and ice.

hope that helps

Just a questions why do you want the LSD so badly? What kind of driving are you going to be doing? In my optinion the GSR is a pretty good package, decent power from the box, looks good, handles decent, good on gas, good price tag... It's really up to you... you know the numbers you just need to go out and test drive the car now.... by the way, you type like me... separating sentences with a few periods

well basically my work is requiring me to buy a truck so i am going to sell my audi s4, i love how it drives in the snow, as well as how much low end power it has. there is no problem passing cars in 6th gear going up very steep hills (parleys canyon near park city utah)... having said this i am looking to have a vehical that will perform closely to the s4 and still get decent gas mileage... i have no problem turbo charging a vehical, and it wont cost me 4k i have a t3/t4 laying around from a recent turbo project that had been upgraded, as well as a couple of i/c i also have access to very good tuners.

you have answered my questions and i guess i will have to continue to search, if i do get an integra you will probly see(hear) more of me around here.

thanks
Danny
