Does your CRX Understeer?
Well, I nearly crashed due to understeer, well it's kinda my fault because I had my Azenis on the rex, then I switched to winter Kuhmo tires, big diference. I underestimated the handling capabilities of the kuhmos. Well this is what happened, I'm going away from my home, and there is a 90* corner to left then another 40* to left again, and then 100* to right, all about 100 feet apart. So I'm going just as usuall, downshift to second, make sure there isn't anyone coming, or anyone behind so that I don't offend anyone or kill anyone. I turn in sharp, stab the gass just a little, the car just couldn't turn at all. Nothing really happened, but I was suprised. As far as suspention goes, all I have is coilover kit. How does your CRX handle? Do you experience mild understeer?
i don't know exactly what "understeer" is but the very first day i had my CRX i was driving up to get my girlfriend to show it off. Its a very windy road with alot of sharp 90* turns and such. I had taken them normally at 40-55 MPH in the mustang and figured that taking then at about 55-60 would be fine.
I ended up losing control and ended up spinning 3 complete circles and landed facing traffic in the side enbankment. There was a huge diffrence for me going from RWD to FWD if that helps you to relate

Understeer is when you turn the steering wheel so much that you lost traction and continue to go the direction you were traveling in and when you turn the steering wheel less, the car continues to turn. Its hard to explain.
How about this, you are going 60 and you turn the steering wheel hard, you hear the tires screech but you are bearly turning, you let off the steering wheel a bit and your tires get traction again and resume turning like they normally would. Try going 40 on an empty wet road and slam the steering wheel into any direction and you will feel understeer. You might spin too, so watch out.
In the wet my car easily understeers, but in the dry, I have a hard time doing it, but yes it does understeer a little even in the dry. Get better tires than the kumhos, get a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s, I bet your understeer will be virtually gone after that.

I think of it like this. Understeer is the tendency of the car to go outward of the arc intended, oversteer is the tendency of the car to go inward of the arc intended. in layman's terms: understeer = front tires losing traction. oversteer = rear tires losing traction. I would say most FF cars tend to understeer, so crx naturally should. Especially FF cars with sunstantial front weight bias. I think stock crx's do very very well though stock compared to most cars. They were kickin *** at the autocross.
Yes, I threw on some strut bars (front and rear) and it helped some. And I do have a "suspension setup". Anyways, understeer sucks when it happens. Also it's only as mild as your turn is.
I have really bald tires on the back (understatement), so mine actually oversteers sometimes LOL I really need some new tires, I have already fish-tailed it once pretty good. Reminded me of when I used to drive a little pickup.

All vehicles on the street are engineered with understeer in them to keep the public safe. It is true as any body turning a street car in to a RR car and they will tell you the same exact thing. Just have to modify till you get it reduced
