Default Mugen CRX aerodynamics

im going to repost this here, because i still think its cool.

so [past] weekend at GT live, in the car show there was a really well put together JDM crx with real mugen parts on it. i finally confirmed what i had a hunch on for a long time.

you can see from the pics, the muffler is actually designed to work with the rear bumper to create some kind of aero, either downforce or just create less drag. im not sure since im no expert, either way its apparent that theres some actual design thought going on in their product designs.

PM rhdef8 for pics, he has that exact muffler on his crx. It looks odd to me, the shape of it, but hey, its mugen....nuff said.

Its shapped like a tear drop to help reduce drag. Doesnt do anything for down force.

Well i know mugen's RSX kit actually reduces the drag coefficient and decreases downforce, now thats what a "kit" should be. I give mugen props for that.

yup, thats the mugen eg2 'del sol' exhaust. mugen was weird and had it exit out the left side. i guess the emblem was placed on the right side to fill in the bumper cut out. check the eg hyper rev or the eg mugen catalog.

the older ef crx mugen exhaust was tear drop too, but emblem in the center.

either way, good ****.

Mugen made three for the EF's. The Tear Drop and just a regular old round one, but in two different pipe sizes.

yes it was a continuing design for the del sol but was introduced in 91 on the ef8 which is the 2nd gen crx...they only made a few of them in 91 for the 2nd gen since they allready had the oval canister made for 88-99

I know they are long gone and out of stock but does anyone make a replica muffler that would work?
