It's slow because there's no vtec?

That's my only gripe. What issues are you asking about, what you have to do for the swap, or things that break or what?

downsides are torque steer, burning rubber going into 2nd, and eating V8's for breakfast. Don't know if those are downsides, but whatever.

Not with the equal length axles that B series have.

I dunno about the V8 thing. I mean, Explorers do have a V8, so I guess.

no downside. and i'd rather have it than my old b16. having no power until 6500 rpm sucks.

crower 403 and 404s do wonders for the ls engines. other than that they LIVE for boost.

How about the fact that it is not a B20?

404s are comin when taxes get here. Then i need a good b16 or gsr tranny to use with it.

Ls tranny is the only downside to it.

Like he ^ said, the only downside to the LS is it's transmission. The B18A tranny's gearing isn't as tall as the B18B tranny's, but it is still too tall. the B18A and B is a good little engine to play with, really.

I have seen a couple LS CRX's totally rape their B16 counterparts off the line and pull on them for the couple gears at the track. In fact my frind was as the track last night in his RS Integra. In gears one and two he regulated on both a B16 hacth and a GSR hatch later. Well until about the middle of 3rd at least, when the hatches caught up and passed him everytime. The nice torque he has in the engine really helped. One thing I have seen before is LS hatches w/ B16 trannys actually beat B16 powered hatches.

The LS is an under-appreciated engine, because a lot of Honda guys have the mentality that everything must be VTEC; and if it isn't VTEC then it is junk. Hey the LS is at least enough for my bolt-on CRX to beat an automatic GT Mustang LOL Which isn't a true performance vehicle I know, but at least I surprised the guy!

*Cliffnotes: the tranny is what sucks, not the engine itself. In my opinion at least.

Hmmm, I know I don't have torque steer with the LS like I did on my little SOHC engine (that thing was all over the place LOL). Usually my CRX just shoots straight unless I hit some grooves in the road or something, but that is mostly my tire's fault I think.

They are crower NA cams. Not exactly boost friendly, too much overlap. But corwer does have a 402-t for boost apps.

Road was slightly tilted and one of his racing tires were worn out more than the other, so thats prolly what it was. Still a torque monster though.

Ive owned 3 b16s and now roll a LS in a 88 crx HF with a YS1 gsr tranny and I must say its MUCH funner and faster than any of the b16s Ive owned. The shorter gears really make the LS a blast to drive, its nice being able to punch it at any rpm and just take off, instead of having to wait till at least 5k before vtec kicks in....

Soon, I'm going ls/vtec....I want the best of both worlds

the only downside is that they are so great with turbos that you will sooner or later spend the money on a turbo...
