headers glowing bright ! wtf???
installed a new head on my car. after starting it, saw that the headers were glowing bright red. they are dc 4 to 1 ss headers. i'm pretty sure thats not normal, seeing as the car was running no more that a good 5 minutes, if that... i checked all my hoses and connections and everything seemed ok. if any has had this happen to them or has dealt with it before, your info would be greatly appreciated. thanks
not running...

running at about 4 grand

i talked to a friend of mine about it and he said that it might be too much gas in the header..?..? which is causing "the glow"...

you would be back fireing alot if that was the case...i think. smell your exhaust and see if you smell lots of unburned fuel.

I installed a K&N and a slipon Exhaust onto my R6 and my mechanic showed me my header after running it for a bit, and it was glowing. He said the Bike was flowing a lot more air now and the stock computer couldn't compensate for the extra air. Which in turn makes it run lean and that means much hotter exhaust than normal. Do you have a FPR? that might help.
got home and tried to drive it. made it around the block
and lifted the hood to see if it happened again. well it did and the headers were red,
but not as red as before.
i realized the first time that this happened, my throttle cable was too tight, which had my car running at about 4 thousand rpm right off the jump. based on these two factors, i have come to the conclusion that they glow when the car runs at high rpms for any length of time. but the question still remains of why they are glowing in the first place...the saga continues...

Usually its because of rich fuel and/or retarded ignition timing. If it was a cold start then it was rich to begin with.Did it pull a code.If something was disconnected the ecu might be pulling timing or enriching the fuel mixture.

if this is the case, how would i go about fixing it, or what would be my next step?

It is more than likely the cam timing if you have no cat and it happens so quickly.
Exhaust valve open just a bit too much + combustion = glowing header.

If it's stock cam gears, follow your manual. If it's aftermaket gears, set them back to 0. Bring the engine to TDC (#1 piston at the very top), there is a mark on the stock crank pulley for this (#1 is the one closest to the timing belt). There are also marks on the cam gears which need to align with little arrows molded into the back timing belt cover.
If you need more ind=fo than this you should really buy a manual if you haven;t already.

after i finally put everything together and tried to start it for the first time, the car wouldn't turn over, and i had that problem in the past. the first thing i looked at was the cam gears, which are stock, and they were misaligned by a couple of teeth. so i went ahead and lined the two markings on the cam gears like the manual said to do. it started right up. now even though they are lined up, is there still a chance that i would have to adjust the cam gears?
You're half way there if they are in time to each other, now are they in sync with the crank? There is a little ridge on the outer timing belt cover that you look along to line up the TDC timing mark on the crank pulley. When this is lined up, the up arrows on the cam gears should be pointing up and the other marks on the cam gears should be pointing right at each other.
ok, all my markings are lined up. the lil' white mark on the crank pulley aligned with the plastic tab on the cover, and the cam gears are in the up postion...
