Default High compression..... what octane gas???

I am thinking of doing some 13:1 arias pistons in my h22. I know as the compression increases so does the octane. what kind of octane am i looking at having to run for the 13:1 pistons? how much different would 12.5:1 be?

thanks!

From what i've read, it's possible to run 13:1 on 94 with lots of timing pulled back and some overlap on the cams

talk to your tuner it depends on alot of things . . . it isnt a yes or no its like a grey area thing that the INTERWEB cant really tell you

If you live somewhere where its cold I wouldn't recomend running 12:0:1 c/r anyway because High compression is a BITCH to start when its cold. And 13:0:1 on pump gas is stupid. But thats just my opinion.

Why is 13:1 on 93 oct. stupid? That is pretty bold statement not to follow up. Lots of people are running 12.5 on ITR's and pulling good numbers power is power and if it works, and your tuner can make it happen, I'd try it, I actually think that I am going to try it, all it will cost is time. If it doesn't work I will know from experience and won't base my opinions on uninformed assumptions. I'm sure the first guy to run crazy boost was told that that was stupid by someone talking out of his *** as well, but it seems to work.

This is how it is, on my old fully built b20 vtec the comp was 12:5:1. I ran 110 and up.....anything under 100 octane would blow it. Right now i have a h22 crx and im going to be stoking it out to 2.4 and run 13:0:1 comp. ill need c16 gas(thats 116 octane) so there you have it.

you can easily run 93 octane, i have very high compression in my R as well.

YOu will get some detonation without seting back thetiming to be less agreesive, but in turn you will lose that low rpm pull that you had when it was tuned more aggressively. either way you will still have the high end power.

Running race gas is just expensive as ****.

c16 is 116 octane huh, think u need to do some research my friend. Beyond that i think u should give some other fuels a shot like VP ms109 or VP red or ms 103, leave the c16 to turbo or REAL high comp. For the guy who started the thread, u can run 13.0-1 but it defeats the purpose of comp, because of all the timing that is required to pull.

i do 12.7-12.8:1 on cali 91 with dizzy retarded 2-3degrees on the streets...advanced all the way on 100octane at the track...great dual purpose setup
(actually i have a msd timing controller...i just turn the **** )

what kind of cams would you be using, depending on what cams you use also cause sometimes cams need a lot of timing in order to make power, im having a problem with my motor not running high enough of an octane, my tuner is telling me I need to run 100 at least with my set up.

My 12.6:1 CR motor starts fine on cold startups... in Canada.. this is the odd startup in my garage (unheated) over winter time mind you, but still.. no problems starting the car.

Trying to tune it on 91 with Skunk2 stage3s with 13:1 cr with both cams advanced on timing the tuner couldnt do it, told me I need race gas, im not trying to tune it on 91 for power, just so I can drive it and not waste a lot of gas.

You can run 91 with 12.5:1 as long as it's tuned for that. I wouldn't say go run super high compression on the lowest octane you can find but what i'm getting at is you can run a little lower octane as long as it's tuned for it.

What would be the point of running such high compression if you have to retard the timing and not tune up to full potential of what it can do with lower compression? some insight would be appreicated.

it's stupid because you may be making power on the dyno, but rest assured, you wont be making power after 10k miles. higher octane is more of a safety precaution than performance (for daily driving). at 12.1:1 compression, i run a mix of 111 octane and 91 pump (california blend).

mix a ratio of 2:1 (pump:race) and it works fine. for a 13+ compression ratio, i'd reccomend making that a 2:1.5 mix and you should be fine. better safe than sorry

H?ave you ever herd of toluene? i think that's how it's spelled. back in the day, the turbo era of Formula 1 (F1) cars had V6 Turbo engines in them making over 1000hp per liter. i cant remember the boost for sure but it was somewhere upwards of 65lbs. what kind of fuel were they using for that kind of boost? Toluene. by itself toluene octane is 114 (R+M/2) toluene is actually a Common ingredient in many octane booster you buy in a store. Ive herd of people running the stuff in Ferrari's, Porches even NSXs. you don't need to run the stuff strait 100%, you can mix with pump gas.

Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...94.2 Octane
20%...96.4 Octane
30%...98.6 Octane

at a cost of about $2.50 a gallon its not a bad choice.

where do you buy it? hahaha Home Depot, Lowes, Even Ace Hardware. i think walmart may sell it as well. Its intended purpose is a light solvent for painting supplies. sounds harsh like using acetone or something but toluene is actually in many ways like petrol. i ran it in my bike at 50% on a 14.5:1 compression ratio for about 3000miles with no problems what so ever.

toluene

If all you're going to run is C16, why only run 13:1 compression? Might as well bump that up to 15:1+.
