Car sounds funny at 3500-4000 rpm's
my 96 gsr sounds like something is vibrating in the engine at exactly 3500 to 4000 rpm's, does anyone know what it is and does anyone else have the same problem??
yup i have exactly the same rattle sound, I also think its just a heat shield somwhere on the exhaust. I only hear it after driving for a while. My advise is to check to see if anything is loose, if not take it to any muffler shop and they should be able to help you out
lol .. i thought i was one of very few who had this problem.. ya mines sounds like the exhaust rattles around 3.5-4k rpms. at first i thought my exhaust was unbolted, but checked n wasnt (cuz i recently got this car..)
sounds like a weird rattle? i have some kind of weird noise in that rpm range too. only at that rpm, even at a stop and i rev up i hear it. when im on the freeway and shift to neutral the car goes away. its weird that something would ONLY vibrate at 3.5-4k and not over that.

that happened to me and it turned out to be the heat shield on my OEM cat.....I removed it and it was gone.
Now, I have another rattle and I think its coming from the exhaust manifold heat shield....damn these heat shields!!

I have the same thing and I have people that state it's a heat shield or double piping in the header that's loose. Some people say they have it welded again and that takes care of it, others use it as an excuse to upgrade to a different header. I have yet to buy another header, but I am going to. I am almost done reapiring old parts. I can't wait to start upgrading other parts.
i to had this problem and it was the Apipe on the header, it cracks inside and makes a horrable rattle. i took off all my heatsheilds and it still made it so i got a used stock header and it was gone, now 10k later its back
why is it that's it's only at those rpms??? so weird, i really want to fix it. sounds like getting a new header is the only way to solve the problem
i dont remember if when i had a new header the noise went away. i put my stock one back on for smog and that bitch is loud at those rpms. i think even with a new header it still made the noise just not as loud, not sure. but it is very strange its only at those rpms, i would think the higher the rpm the higher the vibration
hhmm i have same problem BUT i have a civic with only gsr parts being
(94 engine and 94 trans) , put on dc header still same thing
one mechanic tested the car for me and said that the noise is coming
from the engine bay and said that it is the engine vibration cousing it
onother one (didnt test it and didnt hear it) said its my muffler is gone
hhmmm? i've had it for 4 years already (vibrant)
but i dont know about that

i kind of have the same problem, after i brought my car in for a valve adjustmen, i noticed that somewhere in my engine bay vibrates around 3500-3600 only, it was weird, but very faint in sound, i didn't think it was a big problem, and seemed to get better after a while, now you can barely hear it
But my exhaust was also rattling at one point found out it was a lose bracket around that cat/heatshield, so i just took of the rusted bracket
