whats a good engine setup..... żb16?
im lookin to buy a b16.... now i can get a b16 with axels, tranny, lsd, ecu, motor mounts, basically the complete swap and a 1 year warentee on the engine for 1900 free shipping...
i just found some guy selling the top half a a b16 for 550..
is it more worth it to get the complete. or buy the top halk then get all teh other parts... i could possibly get it to 400 i dunno
also ive been hearing b18s outta the GS model teg run better then teh b16.. is that true?
and whats the deal with d16a8s and ZC swaps... are they any good or DOHC is the best to race with

go with the b16 if you like playing in the top end, and the b18a/b if you like the low end grunt and decide to later go turbo for the needed extra oomph
Hey, from my experiense The B18B1 is the motor I would get over the B16. I've raced a b16 crx in a b18b1 crx both had the average bolt ons the b18b1 wins off the line and downshifting. Only on top end does the b16 start to kreep up (slowly) on the b18b1 at about 1xx mph... If you are ferring to the b18a1 then just stick with the b16.
Just so you know...Me and a buddy were building a b-series to put in our EF's. My buddy started off piecing thing together and I started off with a complete B16a swap. It comes out a little cheaper and is less of a headache to start off with a B16a swap in my opinion. In fact, my buddy gave up.

First, you need to decide what you want to do with your car, and what you want it to do for you. And define what you mean by "race"; if you're talking about street racing, then it's wide open, and you can run whatever you want. The engine with the most torque and horsepower is generally the best bet there, if the cars are otherwise the same. If you're talking about sanctioned racing on a track or drag strip, you start getting into class restrictions and class rules about swaps and modifications.
B18 out of a GS model is usually 130-142 hp or so, stock, depending on the year and engine. The better B18s are out of the GS-R and Type R models, which offered 170-190hp in the US models. There are a myriad of opinions on what engine is "best"; it usually comes down to what you like. Some people like only DOHC engines, some like only SOHCs, some like only VTEC, some say VTEC ain't nothing but a noise. If you really want to get into building the engine and going through every little part of the internals, even the non-VTEC SOHC engines can put out more power than lots of people would like to admit. If you just want to slap an engine in and go, a B-series offers a lot of performance for the money and work involved.
In any case, buying the complete package is generally less expensive and less of a hassle than trying to piece one together on the cheap. There are always lots of little things that aren't included, and you usually don't find out what they are until it's too late. Even a "complete" swap isn't 100% complete; there WILL be little stuff that will add up to more than you expected to pay.

Funny, I've had the same kind of experiences. I've autocrossed against several B16 CRXs, driving a friend's non-VTEC B18B-powered CRX, and it's not even a contest. It has biased my opinion, I'm sure; if I were doing a B-swap on my own CRX, I'd look at a B18B first. They're cheap, they make decent power, parts are easy to come by, and they make good torque - for a Honda, anyway.
Others will weigh in with vastly different opinions, but at the end of the day, you have to decide what you want to spend YOUR money on, since you're the one who's going to be driving the car. Every swap has its pros and cons, and every swap has its fans and its detractors. The one that's right for you is the one that makes you grin like a kid with a new toy. For me, even a stock Si can do that (but I'm weird that way, and in a definite minority group here).

Naaaahhhh -That'll never happen.
What I find funny, and what I've noticed happening - not just here, but on pretty much ALL the Honda and CRX boards I frequent - is that once ONE person asks a question, it seems to open up the flood gates, and within a couple days, ONE topic will keep getting asked on new threads over and over again. It's almost like people are scrolling down the list of topics and see the thread title, and that sets their mind to working. Only instead of opening up that thread and reading through all the info in it, they just jump right in and ask the same exact question again!
One day it's the "CRX dash into Civic?" topic (no lie - at one point last week there were three different threads on that exact topic on the first page of this forum!), the next it's "ZC tranny or Si?" discussions or the infamous "AWD CRX?" debate. I'm surprised that I haven't seen the "Lambo doors?" topic come up lately. But watch this space; it WILL come up now, because I've just planted the seed of a question in someone's mind.
I know no one ever uses the "Search" functions or FAQ areas of most sites (I'm guilty, too), but I just kind of figured people would at least look at the active threads from the past few days, or at least just TODAY, before plowing ahead with the questions.
Bear in mind that I'm not trying to bitch, whine, bash, or cajole anyone in any way. I find it more humorous (on a social behavior level) than annoying; if it bugged me, I wouldn't bother opening the repetitive threads or giving answers. I just see patterns sometimes, and wonder if others do as well.

That's good info to have handy. Nice to get a consensus, too! I know my '90 LS Pig-tegra was a B18A, but I wasn't sure where and when the B18B hit the lineup. Now I know what years I need to be looking for if (or is it "when"?) I decide to throw a B-swap at my own CRX...
