MIG welded top mount manifold for VW ABA
excuse the camera phone. This is a mani I made today for a T3, 2.0l x-flow (ABA) setup. It fits awesome on the car and Im going to ceramic coat it tomorow after I take some before pics with my real camera. There is no post weld clean up on this either.

OK new pics, mocking up manifold after a little cleaning, IM i chopped up to make shorter charge pipes, and pics of the manifold after coating.

Where do you buy those bends?</TD></TR></TABLE>
McMaster-Carr usually. If anyone knows of a source of sch 10 mild bends in the same radius and diameter let me know!

Thanks, there could be room, but there isn't as it sits in the pics. I put a 50 trim hybrid on it and it fits fine if you pry up or cut out the rain tray a little, so Im sure an S cover could fit. If you look at the WG actuator (one of the huge T3 ones) there is more than an inch behind that. height is the only issue. Its not nearly as tight back there as it looks. why do you ask?

yup^ SP135 i think it is, fantastic welder so far
I did all the charge pipes today and cleaned up the IM. Its gonna look fantastic, I should put a honda dizzy on it so he can run Uberdata. The tuning options for these ancient engines are weak

made in 1997...designed in 1897. At least the 16v head flows but that motor is a dinosaur too. There is a lot to be said for sticking with what works, but the 8v VW motors have been left in the dust by japanese and even domestic auto manufactures IMO
It's hard to believe the torch can fit into the small v's at the collector. How does that work? Seems like you wouldn't have control.
p.s. My handler 140 arrived today, woot, woot!

I know, I thought the same thing but it was pretty damn easy. The next one I do will have even nicer beads between the pipes. This is the first merge I have actually welded so I got better on each of the 4 welds. Makes me wonder why people with TIGs use those little plates in the middle. Seems like a big *** MIG gun would be harder to me. The welds between the runners on the mani in my avatar were much harder surprisingly.
