Why do you compare the two?

 

yeah, mugen which was started and still run by a honda family member.
or
spoon which outsources all parts and then rebadges them, selling for 2x the price as what the manufacturer originally asked.

Mugen isn't much better about the rebadging.

You cant compare the two of them cause they both have awesome parts but they specialize in different parts so for some parts people like one and for other parts they like the other company. Its up to your personal perferences which you like more not anyone else.

What does it matter?

Personally I think that there are better companies out there other than spoon and mugen. Toda, skunk2, JG Edelbrock, AEBS, just to name a few, are way cheaper and are preferred by many over spoon and mugen.

 

It matters which setup I want to do........just wanted to hear peoples voices on this..and this is not a silly question

I dont see why it matters what other people think. You didnt even say which setup you wanna do, and please tell me your not one of those kids that says I want a turbo spoon engine just like F&F....

 

I want to do MUGEN, and NO im not a little Kid that drives a EG with a B18C type R motor inn it..

If you want to do mugen then why do you want others input about spoon? If your set on mugen ****, and god bless you if you are, then go right ahead.

Both are overly expensive. If you want to make the most out of your B18C-R, then put some toda cams, maybe new cam gears, some hondata tuning, your normal I/H/E and you will be happy. Of course if you want to go over the top you can get some Toda ITB's for your car, then it will rip, wont pass Cali emissions though.

 

I chose Mugen, but only for aesthetic reasons, for performance parts I choose other companies.

Both mfg's are great Honda products, the difference is really the name and some parts availability. For instance the Spoon S2000 uses a Mugen roll cage, because Spoon doesn't make one or I have a Koyo radiator but my Mugen radiator cap won't fit, so I use Spoon. Very little differences, I know that for the price of the Mugen valve cover I could've bought at least 2 Spoon valve covers.

I prefer Mugen just because I've followed that brand since my old CR-X days but I do prefer dealing with Spoon (Opak Racing or Sport Car Motion) distributors vs Mugen (King Motorsports) distributors, customer service is key. BTW I'm selling some Mugen stuff, check the sig

What do you mean, "which setup I want to do"? Rather than worrying about the brand, why not simply select the best performing products, regardless of who makes them?
