Type R or GSR
Im stuck between motors for my hatch im not sure if i wanna just go for the jdm gsr or save up the extra 1k and go for the jdm type r. Can any of you guys give me a really good reason as to which motor to go for over the other.
id go with the R...
cuz then you know u have the best and you dont have to worry about later down the line saying man i wish i had a true Type R...
the baseline hp is higher yes, and theres a few other goodies about it too.
Im pretty sure honda made the bottom end a bit tougher too..
you wont look back and say anything about spending the extra grand tho, money comes and goes...

if you plan on boosting go with the GSR if you want to go NA go with the Type-r if you can wait save for the K20A, that would be the best
R hands down for a daily driver! I had a JDM B18Cr in my 2000 hatch. Fresh off the boat spankin' wrx's and 350 z's. Nothing beats the reliability of a stock motor. HOWEVER! I ran into the problems of wanting more power, without changing internals. I didn't have the heart to take it's virginity. So I sold it and now i'm going k20 EG baby! All I need is the K20 and the EG
A gsr built w/ boost is mos def quicker, but reliability goes out the window.
If you want a virgin motor puttin' down low 14's daily w/ out problems, go R.

IMO get the GSR and sleeve it then boost it. But, do you want to go NA or FI? Each has their strengths, just depends on your budget and goals. You need to decide on what you want to do with the engine then pick the one that best suits your goal.

when you boost a High Compression motor a lot more has to be done to run safely. But with a higher compression you will make more power, per a pound of boost then you would with a lower compression ratio...

I dont know why people always say this. Granted, the R is an amazing motor, but you cant just say its the best. Best for what? Stock for stock, def. not better for boost.

Actually, the B18C5 is much better for boost right out of the chute than is the B18C1.
It has an intake manifold more conducive to making power throughout the rev band, a better flowing head, more aggressive camshafts, stronger valvetrain and an LSD transmission.
Yeah, you can't slap a turbokit on it and push 10psi without tuning, but with tuning that 10psi will trump the unholy **** out of a B18C1 at similar boost. It's not like you can run either without engine management, so if you're going to boost a high comp. motor, you might as well start with the best victim.

Go ls/vtec. Easy to find. Cheap to build. And if it blows-up, it is still just an LS block.
