Default Ek hatch, 3000gt, or volks GTI vr-6 ?

Looking to sell my car now but debating on what i will replace it with. Looking at some 3000gt's (non vr4s), possibly an EK hatch with work done to it, and some volks golfs, the VR6 ones or maybe the GTI. Anyone have anything to say about any of these 3 cars? I'm not looking for a drag racer, just sometihng that looks great, doesn't eat gas, and would be good to take out and race my freinds some times.

What would be best for the 5-6 grand area???

EK hatch has lots of potential and since you have the CTR in Japan, lots of interchangable parts. I would say the hatch then if not the vr6

Get a 92 cx hatchback (EH2) for $2000 and put $4000 into it. Do it. Doo it.

Or, get the EK hatch, Golf GTI, 3000gt (in that order).

depends on how often they steal honda's by you. If not much I'd say ek hatch they look so nice once done all jdm and have the potential to be fast. 3000gt's are expenensive for everything. I'm not a big vdub fan at all.

the 3000gt vr-4's are quick but I'll add thing i gave a 3000gt from a rolling start 1 car head start with my talon and beat him by 4 cars. But my talon is also an 11 second car

I would say go with the Honda, just because a 3000gt isn't exactly the most reliable thing in the world. My friend has one and its a sack of ****.

An I/H/E Ek hatch with a d16y8 will be as fast as a stock 3000GT. By the way, of all the cars I've worked on - and that's quite a population ranging from the mid 70's to brand new machines - the 3000GT, VR4 or not, is the second biggest piece of **** car I've ever seen. Mechanically, it's a clusterfuck of "ready to break" parts and ergonomically, it's heavy as a pregnant sow and just as squishy. It handles like a sack of dicks and moves just slightly faster.

The VR6 would be a great choice and it would definately run a 15 right out of the chute. The EK would be my poison, largely because I would have the possibility of upgrading it in any number of ways if that struck my fancy in the future. They're cheap and easy to work on and have very few glaring errors (VW electrical ****...cough, cough).

But in the end, the choice is yours. Either hatchback would be great, but I'd stay far, far away from the 3000GT if I had the option .

if you wanna pay alot of money to get work done on your car, go with the VW because everything is CRAMMED in there... i had a GTI (rabbit too ) i loved it... torque through out the whole power band..

but again... its ur choice

haha. wow, thanks for all of your replies. Started thinking about it too and thought, hey if i had a 3000gt it is like a srtait up sports car (even if its not fast/good) but my insurance on that thing would most likely be insane compared to a nice lil hatch... that would eventually have a d16 in it, unbeknownst to the insurance company that is

3000GT SL's are heavy and cramped inside. the rear seats are seriously only for looking at and insurance purposes. it's not a slug, but it's not that fast either. my friend had one back in highschool and it had its fair share of electrical problems. GT's are only worth it if you're getting a VR-4

id say its between the gti vr6 or the ek. hondas do tend to get stolen, much less so than vw's. the vr6 will be the most repsonsive and "feel" faster on the street, so if its just some around town buisness you want out of this car, im almost going to say go with the vr6. if you dont mind swapping, get the ek and put an ls/gsr tranny into it. its responsive on the street at lower rpms, and will get 25-30mpg

I know theft is a very horrible thing but i dont see much of it around my area at least. Going to school in philly next year though lol. So if theft really a problem that is something i should consider in the purchase of my car? what percent of us tuners would you say actually get there cars stollen? (5% of us, 25 %, etc)

Id probably get a nice cheap EK hatch and pour lots of money into it, start with like a GSR swap or something, then maybe turbo downt he road, or build up the internals and go all motor. Another alternative would be a eg hatch.. Theyre pretty nice too. Either or would be a great choice.

Aree you just trying to have a car to do something to, or do you actually want something to depend on?

I am a hatchback fan, but i also really do like the GTI as well. I dont think you will go wrong with either car.

dont get a vw. its an electrical nightmare. i should know, i work for vw roadside assistance.
one minute it'll be fine. go into the store for a minute, come out and it won't start on you.
and if you really want one that badly, make sure its an 02 or newer. they get 4 years free roadside(towing) from the original purchase date.

Ok... 3000GT non vr4 or not is no heavier than a 350Z or a corvette, about 1k heavier than a prelude... And the VR4 is the only one worth getting, nons are really just too powerless.

The hatch is gonna be your best solution economically, although you won't be able to compete with the "big boys" unless you put in a lot of money.

And I NEVER had any problems with my VR4 until I wrecked it, then it didn't run so well.
