Skunk Pro 1 vs buddy 4's on Tbones car .. Dyno's by EVANS Tunning Pa
READ THE DARN POST , DONT JUST LOOK AT THE PICS
The skunks win by 10 ftlbs tq from 2000-5800 the buddys win from 7500 up
Cam specs are as follows..the skunks have alot less duration then the buddys.. this will benifit because of less stress and wear on the valvetrain..
at 1mm
Intake lift 495 duration 257
exhaust lift 465 duration 255
Well after a few mechanical problems jeff evans and I were able to get some good tuning time in the past 2 weekends..
We made alot of pulls on each cam and beat the crap out of my motor these 2 weekends as well as trashing Jeff's shop..lol
I want to start by thanking Jeff and Dan Evans for all the help with this test and the use off there shop..You guys were great and kept cool though all the problems as well as stored my car for a week after the blizzard..
Skunk2 for use of their Pro 1 cams
Distributor King for getting the new dist out and at my door in 9 hrs after I fried one on our first tuning attempt 2 weeks ago..
Now I want to take the time to say that these tests were performed with the utmost care to ensure accurate results.. These results are what we came up with on MY motor and may not reflect results found by others on different setups.. So all the haters go hate somewhere else..
For these tests I no longer had the msd ignition and coil setup that was used on all my prior tests(just a note for those with good eye's)
We also did the cam test on the same day with same conditions back to back...
Heres the Photo's and results..Enjoy
Evans tuning dyno bay

The test mule

Jeff and I performed compression and leakdown results on the motor before and after each set.
This was performed after a full warm up and some part throttle tuning on each cam.
Leakdown prior to the retune of the buddys by Jeff was 0 to .5%
Heres a dyno of our final Buddy 4 against the 2nd pull with the pro 1's . The cam gears were at 0,0 on the skunks at this point..
This is a TQ curve pull which shows the Skunks beating the Buddys prior to vtec..
Now Keep this in my mind when you see the final dyno with full pulls as the motor was then heat soaked and the final plot doesnt show these gains as much....this pull was made with allmost no tuning changes from the buddy map except 8% more fuel was needed.. This wasnt a full pull and we cut it off prior to vtec. 10 ftlb of tq more off the bat...
Heres the final pulls when the motor was starting to heat soak.
The long dotted line is the skunk Pro 1's and the short is the Buddys...
The solid line is the skunk Pro 1's
So all in all the Skunks are an awesome cam which will benifit the guys looking for a kick butt street cam.. 10 ftlbs tq over the buddys from 2000 to 5800 rpm.. will be awesome for the daily drivers. The buddy 4s still have the peak #'s by 5-6 whp and carry slightly longer.. All in all there both great cams and I love them both .. I'll contine to run the buddys for now as Jeff is going to try out the skunks on his allmotor car too...So possibly stay tunned for some more resullts.......I'll add more when I get some time..

Only for peak #'s yeah... The skunks will be faster on the street for sure... For a drag car the buddys might be on top. But I think its clear who will win at the stoplight
Plus this is a stage 1 cam compared to a stage 4 .. Let's see if Buddyclub up's the ante now with another cam..
