Default Are honda tach's off a bit?

just wondering if Honda Tachometers are usually off by about 200 rpms up top? im ask n this because the rev limit on my LS is 6800 but before i had it chipped with a raised rev limit, the needle would go up to about 7000. when i had my SAFC in my car, it would also show about 7000-7100 as my max rpm's whenever i redlined the motor. But here's the thing, when i got my car dyno'd and i hit the limiter, the graph only stopped at 6800 which is the stock revlimt.
also i am run n a 2-step/ full throttle launch on my car right now. i have it set at 4K rpms, but my tach shows about 4200 rpms. so is the tach off a bit.
the Idle rpm's looks like it's correct though. it's at 700-800 at warm idle

Honda tachs can be off. Often.

i personally have never seen a stock honda tach closer than 300 RPM. The are horribly innacurate in my experience.

They're like that on purpose. They read high to help protect the engine.

lol, urban myth. Thats like saying honda engines make no torque in order to protect the tires.

ALmost ALL stock tachs are off, not just Honda's.

The tach in my crx is very inaccurate. It is dead on at 3000rpm, but everything above that it reads high, by as much as 900 rpm. The SFC-VTEC tells me 4400 rpm at 80 mph while the stock tach reads 5300. My friend has a 92 Integra GS-R and his tach seems to be extremely accurate, matching the rpm my SFC reads for each speed across the range, as far as I can tell. And yes, we have the same transmission.

but the thing is my SAFC said 7100 rpms when i hit redline and my needle was about 7100 rpms on the tach as well. but on the dyno graph print out it was dead on at 6800 rpms which is the stock LS rev limit

When I had my stock GS tach in with my B16, it was about 800rpm's off (and past the red too...so amusing to passengers). With the JDM XSi tach in, it's still about 300-400rpms off. My autometer tach hasn't done me wrong yet.

In my 99 Civic Ex Coupe, my take reads 700rpm too high at 7500rpm.

I shift my h22 when the tach says 8200

my ef9 tach seems pretty acurate but if the tach is off the how does the ecu read... i would assume its getting its own input(seperate from tach) but i dont know for sure. any input on this?

My GS-R one is off by about 200 RPM at redline. I hear most Type R tachs are off so much that you could convince people that you were revving to 9

...My CTR cluster is only off by like 300 RPM at 9000 RPM. I rev to 8900-9100 RPM according to my VAFC.

On the other hand, my EX cluster that I was running for over a year was off my like 1200 RPM at 8600 (which was my rev-limit on my old P73 ITR ecu). It was terrible. People used to get freaked out when my tach started going towards the "0" again when I shifted.

yeah my tach goes wacky innaccurate after 5000rpms. its almost like the car revs faster than the tach can. my tach in my CRX only goes up to 8000, so when my vafc says 9500 i dont know how far off it is

At low rpm's mine is accurate but like after 3,500 rpm its about 2 to 400 hundred rpm's higher.

lol, i know what u mean. but i got a stand alone EMS ow and raised my rev limit to 7100 rpms. it's kinda scary see n my tach go to 7500 rpms when it really is not spin n that fast.
