Default Raised Rev limit with CAMs and SPRINGS/RETAINERS

hey whats up. Ive been run n CROWER 403 cams with CROWER springs and retainers in my LS for about 6 months now with the stock rev limit (6800). how much can i safely go up to? i just chipped my ECU and set the limit to 7200 rpms. i didnt want to go too high cuz i have stock rod bolts. i will be install n P30 pistons with ARP rod bolts and ARP head studs in 2 months so then i'll raise the limit even more (wherever these cams stop make n power i'll set the limit to)

Is 7200 a safe limit right now with the stock rod bolts right and crower springs and retainers? it should be cuz these LS/VTEC boyz be go n to 8K on stock LS rod bolts. let me know what yall think. i dont wanna be spin n bearings due to the rod bolts stretch n at high rpm's. so is 7200 safe?

When I had my first LS swap I ran it to 7200 all the time, b/c that is what I thought the redline was. The motor ran fine for 2 yrs before I threw a rod. I say rod bolts a must, but you should be fine based on my own experiences. The thing to watch is high rpm in 4th and 5th gear, in which you stay in high rpms for a very long time which will cause added stress to the rod bolts. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

well the only time i would be high in the rpms is only when im race n and it will be up to 7200 for a few seconds. no constant rev's to 7200. but i guess i shouldnt worry too much cuz i will be rebuild n in 2 months and probably only gonna race it once at the track b4 i rebuild it.

high rpm's in 4th and 5th gear hybrid??? how long do u keep drive n at high rpm's man. u must be do n over 110 mph on the highway if u constantly have the rpm's that high. lol

oh hybrid, how did u throw that rod? were u race n when it happend?

thanks for the input.

Back in the day '00 or '01 I had a B16 that I threw a rod racing for top speed against a buddy( i did this quite frequently I might add) and was at about 125-130 in 5th gear and shot a rod. I used to rev that motor to 9K all the time on stock rod bolts(Im an idiot I know).

Then I threw a rod on my old B18b just drive down the interstate in North Carolina on my way back to Florida in '03 just driving down the interstate. I figure it was just the motors time to go. I used to give that motor hell and spray the **** out of it though, thats why I say it was probably its time to go.

yo hybrid, do u have an oil pressure gauge in ur car at that time u threw the rod? i have one in my car so i'll keep an eye on it when im rev n high just to make sure i have proper oil pressure and im not about to spin a bearing. but im pretty confident it will handle 7200 rpms. **** when i 1st got my cams and retainers put in, i was drive n on the highway shift n at redline when i misshifted. rpm needle went way past 8500 and the motor was still good. no damage, perfect oil pressure. i was lucky!

yea I have misshifted twice and taken my R to 10000 rpms maybe 10200 and its still fine. Lucky me I guess, but I have a fully built engine.

As for you, I would be willign tosay the way its built now, you can handle 7500 SAFELY. Once you get your other parts, I would set it at about 8200-8300 easily.

Started the car on Thursday and Friday morning and the car made an unusual ticking noise from the head. Took it to the shop and they said "your engine was cold and there is no oil in your head so that's normal" Makes PERFECT SENSE. Turned out to be a previously cracked retainer.
