Painting BB6 Headlights
anybody know a site that has a write up on how to paint the bb6 headlights? i wanting to paint the houseings black, and i really dont want to try and quess how to do it. so if any one could help me with this i'd appreciate it. thanks alot in advance.
i did them on my buddies. just put them in the oven. bake at 250 degrees in the oven for like 5 min or so, or just use a heat gun. use a putty knife and some screwdrivers to pry them apart. take it easy though, you dont wanna break them. then take out the part you want painted, finnish that step, and reinstall.
IMO, as another fellow BB6 owner..you should leave it alone. The stock housing color looks great with jdm yellow or HID kit lights because its not flashy chrome..its like black chrome..like the ones found on the type R headlights. If you paint it black, its gonna look reallllllllll DIY. Never really dug that look, but hey! It's your car, and this was only an opinion. Sooo cheers!
well im painting the houseings because thats the next thing im doing(hid kit)..im just not a baller so i dont have the money to do it all at once..one thing at a time..so i figured i would just go ahead and paint them sence there a extra pair.

i have them painted.....
1) pre-heat oven to around 250 degrees
2) turn OFF oven
3) put headlight on cookie sheet with towel on it (so your plastic doesn't melt) and let it sit in there for like ... ~3 minutes or so
4) put some oven mits on, take the headlight out, get 2 flat head screwdrivers and start splitting the headlight open
5) there are 3 screws that attach the plastic piece inside, so just un screw them
6) get your black spray paint of choice...wet sand the plastic piece a little with some fine grit sandpaper
7) spray as many coats as you want and make sure it looks the way you want it
8) re-screw the plastic piece in
so lets double check everything....you should have 3 pieces now. the first piece is the headlight cover, the 2nd piece is the plastic housing (the part you are painting black), and the biggest, 3rd piece (where you place the bulbs and plug them in etc)
9) to prevent fogging, get some silicon sealant from kragen or pep boys and squeeze some into the "valley" where the headlight cover goes into (you'll know what i mean when you get there...it's the big 3rd piece)
10) pre-heat the oven again to around 210 degrees
11) turn OFF oven
12) set headlight (3rd piece) in there with the cookie sheet/towel for another two minutes
13) take the headlight off and slam the 2 piece together and hold them for as tight as you can for about a minute to make sure there are no holes
14) kick back and have a beer
here are mine:

if you live in the socal area i'd be glad to help you out
i hope this helps though, i know its tough w.o step-by-step pics
