Clunking...
Hey everybody...
Ok, I've got my hands on a 1994 Civic EX... Which I wasnt too thrilled about at the time, but it has turned out to be quite a fun car. Only thing that is nagging at my mind is the clunking coming from the Passenger CV Joint.
I recently wrecked her doing some silly road coursing. Took a very fast turn, my tires were under presured, thus they couldnt take the force, and folded. My front left popped, sending me off the road, into a tree, and down a deep embankment. After I payed over $1,200 to get the body work done, I had to turn my attention to the smaller mechanical problems.
And upon closer examination, I found that the CV Joint is torn wide open.

So directly after I discovered this, I pumped the boot full of High Temperature Axel Grease in an attempt to salvage the Joint.
But my question is this... Is it salvagable? Can I get away with just swapping the boot out at this time? Or is it not worth that risk, and just buy a new CV Joint?
Thanks in advance!

A new axle in not too expensive. Should be about $60 with trade in of the old one, and u will possibly get a warranty with it. Same process as changing the boot, so might as well change out the whole thing.
People might tell you to replace to boot and repack with grease. Here is what I have to say.
It takes awhile for an axle with a cv boot torn to loose all its grease and to start knocking. Once this occurs the bearing inside more then likely already got to hot and shorten its life span down. I would just get a brand new axle.

O... That cheap, huh?
Well I get payed tommarow, sounds like I have a trip to make. I suppose the Altezza Taillights and Neons will have to wait... O... There was just a little bit of sarcasm there
Thanks for the quick replies!

Autozone sells them for $60, with a lifetime warranty. Make sure when you go back to give back the core, do a nice burn out in the parking lot, to show them how good there axles hold up.
