del sols are heavy...you're better of getting a hatch so you can carry more people when you need too...

si vtec 95-97 del slow's come with the b16a2 engine... pretty nice engine to start with. targa top is P-I-M-P too. CRX looks classier. crx is much much much lighter. crx=more available parts. i would choose the crx but thats just me.

If by "pimp" you mean targa tops are all flash and no class, I agree.

Del Sol negatives:

Looks: Lots of us just don't like the way they look. Others will begrudgingly acknowledge that they're "cute". 'Nuff said.
Space: There is about as much usable storage & hauling space as a Miata has. Which is none. Not even a decent place to put your purse.
Weight: It's a good thing they were available with a B16, because they needed one to haul all that lard.
Structural rigidity: it's got all the stiffness of Mike Ditka without his Cialis, which is to say, NONE.
Utility: Let's see, it's not really a convertible (the least practical vehicles on the planet), but it's not a hatchback either (the most practical vehicles on the planet). It has the drawbacks of both and the benefits of neither.

Positives:

Your friends won't want to borrow your car any more, or even be seen in it. Of course, you won't HAVE any friends any more, either...except for maybe the "boyz" at the hair salon. And they'll sit in your lap while you drive, too!
It was available in the US with a B16. Of course, you can put a B16 in a CRX, too, and have just as good a warranty nowadays as any del Slow you can buy.
Cheap and reliable. Only they aren't, really.

When it comes right down to it, if you're shopping a del Sol, wouldn't you really feel prettier in a Miata?

[Take it all with a grain of salt, people. I'm just bustin' chops here! ]

del sol's aren't terrible, but its true that the tops tend to leak, they can't haul anything (i know i get spoiled by my crx and hatch, i fit almost as much in the hatch helping my friend move as his dad did in a ford ranger) and theyre significantly heavier than the crx (still not HEAVY compared to a lot of american cars, but you gotta remember with more weight comes less zippyness) and, of course should only matter to you, but most people bash them cause of their looks. if you don't mind the looks, ignore that arguement.

bottom line is, the del sol is only a couple years newer than the crx, so its not that much of an age advantage. crx's are simple, anyway, if you have some common sense they don't take much to keep running. a timing belt here, a headgasket there, etc.

Ok , i have a del sol and ef9 . Back in the day , i hated the del sol because of the common reasons, too heavy, chick car, etc. Compared to the ef9, the del sol is small, the seat do not recline all the way back and those are my only complaints. Overall the del sol is a coo, the roof dose not leak because i treat it with silicone grease and that preserves the seal well. Since i bought the del sol i use it has a daily driver. I put tein coilovers and back yard special strut bars front and rear, with gsr wheels . It handles great and gets great gas mileage. Overall i like it, I painted it gun metal and dumped it on good shoes. So its not all bitch made looking. It does feel like a tank compared to the EF9 but the sporty feel of the interior and targa top makes up for the difference.

I got rid of my 1990, 1989 & 1991 CR-X Si's for this lil project:

I don't know why people think that this would be slow or girlie? One Big Plus about having a Del Sol is that its not as common as a CR-X, so you can stay unique and build something that is different. The CR-X 2nd gens are nice and will forever be a classic favorite to me, but my Del Sol (technically a 3rd gen CR-X) has been by far the funnest out of the bunch.

i like del sols a matter of fact a HS principle drives 1 to work everday and in snow. it's a Del Sol DOHC VTEC mint no rust and he wants 2500obo, i know this cause i have a tendancy to leave notes on nice hondas.. this one i left naem and # he is the original owner and taken care of it since 96'. he now wants to get the turbocharged scooby legacy as an all season DD. i might just sell the teg to get it. on another note my wife works with a lady who owns a mint virgin Black 91 crx si (original owner) $2000neg. i was thinking about buying this swaping everything from my rex into it. and using the stock and d16 into my current CRX. time will tell what i do, neither person wants to sell car but would for around that price if offered.

I dated a chick with a Del Slo Once. She sucked… and not in the "fun" sense either. So Like her car, she got dumped. Del Sol's are crap.

No no no. It's not a man-purse - it's a "murse". But what I was saying was that if you're a del Slow driver, you've got a purse. Or a murse.

Mostly just having fun with the post. I have to admit that black del Sol of delSolSir's looks pretty mean; not girlie at all, unless she's one pissed-off badass chick.

I learned the ups and downs years ago betweeen the crx and del sol.

Back in 1994, a year after the Del Sol came out, they went on a decent sale for the new SI SOHC model with the 125hp 1.6L engine. I took my 89 CRX SI over to the dealer to test drive one.

I like the way the car looked, but it felt way underpowered compared to my crx. Handeling also was down big time. My crx had a stock susension still at the time, and once i went to take a faster corner in the Del Sol, the car went into a skid and lost traction much easier than my stock CRX.
I drove back to the dealer and said thanks, but no thanx, end of story.

i've owned 4 crx's and a del sol. i love them both. the 93 del sol s model i had was such an awesome car. i had koni yellows/neuspeed race, rear sway, tie bars, strut bars all around, with rota c8's and kumho 712's. and it handled great. i had the same setup on a 95 gsr sedan (i took it off the sedan and put it on the sol), and my sol felt better handling than the sedan. my kumho 712's were severely limiting my handling ability tho.

you have to love the interior styling of the del sol...it's SO much sportier than a civic or integra. i think my eg coupe's dash looks drab and boring. the del sol's interior is almost ergonomic to the driver. the seat holds you in place and you feel as if you are in a sporty car, not a blah blah everyday my grandma drives civic.

to me, the del sol looks "girlish" until it's lowered. then it does a total 180 and becomes sports car looking-ish.

and no crx can beat taking the targa top off in the spring and summer. if you roll the windows up, you can barely feel any wind flow.

the one time i got stopped in it i was pulled over for accelerating too fast (with my stock d15b7...go figure) and after the cop gave me a warning, he said "by the way, sweet car".

i love my 88 crx hf tho....it's a tin can on wheels it's great. and you can haul tons of crap in crx's.

oh, and to the guy who said something about if you get hit in a del sol you'll die or something or other...i was hit head on by a 2001 ford ranger 4x4...he was going ~30mph and i was at a dead stand still. guess what. i'm perfectly fine except for chest pain from the air bag hitting my sternum. the car is totalled but i walked right out of it.

my .02.

I own a 93 del sol auto (my gf drives it everyday but i love the car. Its such a nice car. I love how it feels like no other honda when you sit in it. My crx is a rough ride and it spanks alot of cars...I say own them both. I'm getting ready to buy us a 4 door gsr because we need a car for the future and when friends are with us since we are getting married soon. Dont knock the del sol its still a crx.
