GRM Civic
Well, more parts have arrived for our Civic--a new (stock) clutch and some suspension parts from Whiteline. I'll get some pictures posted asap. Super-duper Konis are on the way. So, does our '92 Civic Si stand any chance in STS? A few people have asked to co-drive the car, which kind of makes me feel good. You can see the car here: http://www.grassrootsmotorspor....html
Thanks for all of the words of encourangement.

I agree. We had an informal poll on our message board, and the Slipstream won, however: http://www.grmotorsports.com/b...=7401
I actually voted for the GT3s, as they do look cool.

aren't the gt3's a few pounds heavier ? I seem to recall them being 2.2 lbs heavier from what moda car says between the 7in wide size.
too bad enkies don't appeal to you for about another 200 bux you can get them in the same size in 9.1-9.9 lb's depending on offset for the RPF's

Yeah, that is true. Fuction won over form. (I guess that's how it should be, right?)

And about the paint...the clear coat on my hood is pealing and my roof looks about like yours, as well as the fenders.

It would be kool if you guys got the slips and then for something different had them done up like the celica wheels only in a silver annodize
then you could have both function and form.

That's partly why I didn't want a red one, but that's all I could find. Red is a tough color. However, the car is going to be repainted right, as I want it to look good. I ordered some molding already and will get the rest soon--new rub strips, new window sashes, new windshield molding, etc. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the car photographs okay in its current state, especially when shot in the rain. In reality, it's a few different shades or red/pink/orange.

Red Civics are cool.
Car is looking great Dave. I'm looking forward to seeing how you guys do with it.

very cool... I'd like to see more of a diversity to the STS crowd, and hopefully this will be it!
My friend says GRM should do a build for a Z31 ('86 300zx Turbo, specifically)...mainly cause he thinks he's the only one setting one up for autocross/time trials.
keep up the good work!

Yeah, I'm warming up to the color. (I even drove the car to work today.) And while it's a non-turbo, there's a story on a mid-'80s 300ZX in our next issue. It's a $2004 Challenge car that was built for only a grand. Very clever.

Hey Dave,
If you really want to know how it will compare in STS, bring it up to Atlanta for the Tour and Pro. I'll be there and I know at least a couple of other top-notch EF Civics will be. In fact, we are doing an Evolution Dial In school the Wednesday/Thursday in between the two events. We could do some real controlled tests in that environment. Let me know off-list if there is interest.

Hum, i do like the gab knockoffs. But I'd go with the Slips for the 15x7 and i think lighter weight. Also... from what I see on wheelguy site... they only sell the gt3s in 16in? Were you planning on 16s for this car?
btw: using product shots for wheel photochops... not the best lighting to have to bother with
... and do i win the special prize?

It is. (Although technically it's 343--don't ask.)
And I'd like to see the car at the Atlanta events. Unfortunately, I think the car will be in the paint shop then. I'm having the car painted at our local vo-tech school, and it goes there in about five weeks. And then they want the car for six weeks. That part kind of stinks, but they do good work and it's for a good cause. Part of the plan is to send the car to a real event with a real driver behind the wheel. (ie: Someone way better than me.) The car could go to Atlanta looking gross, but I'd rather it not. Hopefully it can make a later Tour or we can do a private test day somewhere.
As far as the 15-inch Rota GT3s, they do make them. They're new, so I guess not all of the dealers have them. I have touched them myself. That reminds me that I need to get some more lug nuts today....

does this car still have it's ac? are you planning on using the kdw's for wet autocrosses as well as street? what whiteline bits are you going to be using?
....that's it for now i think. i have some opinions on some stuff if you're interested.

Yes, the car has a/c. The previous owners just spent $1200 having it all replaced. I know, losing it would help performance, but man, it's a '92 Civic Si with brand-new air. It's all nice and shiny. The KDWs will be for street and any wet autocrosses. My friend was one of the designers on that tire and I have been looking for an excuse to run a set. I didn't realize that it's one of the largest tire lines currently available. Editorially, it would probably make sense for me to have a little seat time with them. The KDWs will go on the Auto-X wheels, while the 15x7 Slipstreams will get the KDs for autocross. Whiteline sent bars, springs and some other goodies. If you have setup advice, please e-mail me. (I'm guessing we're going to need to go up in spring rates.)

Muppet News Flash: I just got some good news from CRX Lee. I'll post an official Web update tomorrow. Here's a hint: Race-valved Konis are on the way.

you're lousy at giving hints... we just lost Pyramid $25000 cause you gave me the answer!
is it bad that I'm getting excited to see this car all prepped-like?

Sweet! I would love to have a set. I will be anxiously awaiting your review.
As for the springs, I have decided to go with a 400f/500r set up on my OTS Koni Yellows. This seems to work well with the EF Civics. Even though my 92 Si is a bit heavier and could maybe use a little more spring, I am going to stay with this set up for now since the car is my daily driver and I don't want it to beat the hell out of me on my 30 mile drive to work.
I am starting the season with a stock GSR rear bar that I have yet to install. I am sure I will end up with the Comptech strut bar/sway bar combo by the end of spring.
I ran the car in my 2nd ever autocross and the cars 1st autocross last October and finished 2nd out of 7 cars in STS and 6th in the pax out of 70 entries so I think the car is a good starting point. With a lot of practice and a little tuning, I think the car can do quite well in this class.

Outstanding to see how far it's coming since when you were mulling over whether or not to get the thing!
I'd love to get my EG in on one of those student bodyshop deals! That's a helluva mod unto itself.
Thanks for the update
*edit* forgot to say--you have two very cute dogs! What breeds are they???

Miniature Pincher/Welsh Corgi. They're both from the same litter, even though they look and act totally different. (One is nearly twice as heavy as the other.) They're about 18 months old.
The little one has the distinction of blowing chunks in a PT Cruiser convertible press vehicle the other day. Fun stuff.
