Manual Transmission Remote Start
So they make remote start for manual tranmission cars now(past many years).
How do these things work to prevent the car from starting with it in gear?
I know that they bypass the clutch depression switch. When the remote start in engaged.
Are there any aftermarket neutral position safety switches that I can add on to my car? I heard of using home alarm door magnetic sensors and rigging something up but I rather stay away from that. I can see that not being too reliable.
Thanks any info..

</TD></TR></TABLE>Most of the remote starts for M/T have gone to the same system, very few still use the magnets, photo cells or switchs of any kind, the are useing one form or another of "ready mode" the way they work is....... once you have parked, you step on the brake, then set the E-brake, then take your foot off the brake, turn ign. off, [the car will keep running] open door and get out of car, [ it must be out of gear if you can get out when its still runneig] when you close the door the motor will stop running, and as long as no door is opened on the car you can remote start it, if a door IS opened, no remote start, that is why all doors must be wired, easy on a Honda/Acura as it is a one wire hookup, [domelight] other cars and trucks the doors are all isolated and must be wired together with diodes, in all cases, you you would have to reach in through an open window and put it into gear, [an overt act ] to defeat the system

So what other brands out there also have this procedure to prevent you from starting your car in gear?
I'm looking for something cheaper than a Compustar. This is for my winter beater.
Thanks
