Default Destroked b20vtec?

Is it possible, would it be worth while? Looks like everyone from all my searching is sick of the rod to stroke ratio talk. But there is just something fun about revving the dogs#it out of a motor(priviously owned rotaries...nothing like reving a wild streetported motor to 10k rpms and still make power). Just wondering... I dont know the bore and stroke of the b20's because I havent searched that yet but I would imagine the larger bore would make up for some of the lost stroke.

Also I was looking for a bore and stroke of the b series to see if there are any "cheap" tips of mixing and matching pistons and rods and so fourth.

Thanks,
Steve

You could run a GSR crank and rods....that would bring it from a 89mm stroke to a 87.....

B17 crank and rods would work also.

I know what you mean about rvving, i have always found it awesome to rev an engine so damn high, it gives it a raw high-strung race feel. Anyway, you're gonna run into some problems as far as oem destroking. I have a b16 with a b17 crank (85mm bore by the way), yet i still use b16 rods, how? arias made me a set of custom pistons with a shorted compression height to accomodate the longer b16 rods, cost me more money but i love the way its built. why? now i have 1.65 r/s ratio and a 1.85 liter motor. There's a guy on here mike K i believe, long time ago he built a b20 with a b17 crank and some looooong *** rods, he had like 1.8X r/s and it had an amazingly flat torque curve, it made 212 whp. I'll try to find the thread. CHECK OUT THIS THREAD

No costom rods required. The B16B (CTR) rods would be the correct length and yield a rod ratio of 1.84:1. Displacement would be about 1715cc with the stock bore diameter. Another option would be a B17A crank. This would yield a rod ratio of 1.74:1 with a displacement of about 1.8 liters even with the stock bore diameter. And finally, you can use a GSR crank for a rod ratio of 1.58:1 and a displacement of about 1932cc with the stock bore diameter. By the way, with the stock, 89mm B20 crank, your rod ratio is 1.54:1 and displacement is about 1972cc.

By the way, to get 1972cc with a GSR crank, a bore diameter of 85mm would be required. With the B17A crank and B16A crank, it would not be possible.

i built a destroker back in 2001. it ran really good. i used a b20z block, 85mm pistons(endyn 12.3:1 compression), custom eagle rods, b17a crank, ported gsr head w/ skunk2 manifold.. jun2 cams, and smsp header.
total displacement was like a little bigger than an LS motor.. but that thing revved HIGH and made power high, too.

i dont have the dyno sheet anymore.. but it made 212hp and 143tq to the wheels. torque curve was FLAT all the way to 9000rpm.

So mike what happened to that engine, and the car, i heard you broke the axles the first run, did you ever get a chance to run it again. That thing had one of the best powerbands ever, so flat and nice.

ran 13.70 on street tires, spinning like crazy.
i ended up just parting it out. honestly, i forget who got the parts off it. i know i sold a bunch of the stuff locally, when i lived in FL.

yea, that thing was fun as hell... especially with the ATS final drive. revving to 9300rpm.

Im starting to wonder what all this would cost... I am exploreing all my possibilities.
Ive been looking at everything from b16 turbo's to b20vtecs... took a quick look at the k series-Im not that rich and dont want to go through that much effort. I was looking into turbo's...but I just look at the engine bay and the area to put an intercooler...seems like a cluster fu@# to me. Rather just do all motor. This is a daily driver also.

Thinking... b20b or b20z(not sure which is better)

b20 shortblock=400?w/ accessories?
b16 or b17 or b18 crank=dont know
vtec head=minimum 350
intake manifold=150-200..
b series lsd trans-800minimum
all the mounts you need and shiz=dont know

Im just wondering if this is worth all my effort...I work long hours, although I am a skilled hack..I mean technician it still seams like a huge feat.. about all i have that might work on this is...460cc high impedence injectors off a 2nd gen rx7...I always look at theoldone.com and dream of that b20. This is a daily driver so im almost considering just dropping a b16a2 with an lsd and leaving it and focusing on my rx7.

Thanks,
Stephen
