CEL: Deteriorating CAT
Since moving to CO, I have received a CEL a couple of times. Apparently the code is for a deteriorating CAT. I usually just reset the code and everything is fine and the light stays off for several months. I currently have a carsound CAT with not many miles on it.
I think the cat is fine (I'll check it for sure this week), but is there anything else that would cause this code? I had the car tuned with the VAFC in TX, will the difference in A/F ration due to the higher altitude have anything to do with it?

Even with a bad WOT tune, it shouldn't affect that code, which would only happen while running closed-loop at partial throttle/cruising speed. The rear o2 isn't lagging behind the primary o2 enough, so the ECU figures the cat isn't holding enough carbon/doing it's job (if my understanding is correct). Which means your cat actually is sucking.
I run a testpipe and don't throw any codes.... well, now I have Hondata so it doesn't matter anyway
I don't think elevation matters to the catalytic converter. Maybe it overheated a little on the long drive to CO? *shrug* Good luck with it, maybe someone with a carsound cat can post up their experience.
How many miles on that cat? I've heard of them lasting only a year..

Was it code 67? My carsound has thrown this code several times. You can reset the ECU and it will clear but may be back in a few months. This last time mine threw code 67, I just rode out to see if it would clear itself. Within 3 weeks it did. I wouldn't worry about it too much. BTW my carsound seems to be doing fine 1.5 years and 35K Later.
I've heard of many carsounds blowing out after a few months and have seen one in person on a friends R. Flaming bits own
I run a JDM cat and if I am hard on my caR for a while I smell it burning. I bought it used from THK with a couple miles on it and I may have put 3k miles on it since then. Only time will tell if it will hold up.
On a side note, I would see about getting dynoed again. Your A/F has to be off now that you are living at that altitude.

Simply because they crap out pretty often for some yet last forever for others.

Yes, that is on the list of things to do this winter before hitting the track again in the spring...
I'll see if the light comes back on - if it does I may just get a new cat, they arn't that expensive.

Well,be sure that's the problem before you replace it. My friends cat stunk to hi heaven for weeks before the honeycomb began breaking down, igniting and spitting out of the exhaust
Edited for misprint** On a side OT note, that same R just dynoed his 1st turbo setup @ close to 400 whp last night
