Default are skunk stage 1's worth the extra money over the ctr's

i've heard that stage 1's offer only a slight gain over the ctr's, am i better off just sticking with the ctr cams?

It is pretty much your call. Stage 1's make 1-2 hp over ctr's, and some more midrange(typically) But Ctr's are oem cams.....

1-2 whp? maybe mid range.....

The stage 1's will be comparable through the low-midrange however the big difference is at the higher rpm. I swapped my ITR's out for stage 1's and put down 15whp more (peak power).

Go witht the stage 1's...

Don't forget you're gonna hafta buy valvesprings. It's not just buying the camshaft alone, and maybe cam gears also to extract every bit of power out of em. You could be into these for over a grand real quiick, but if you get 15 more whp like the guy did above, then I say do it!

When i swaped out my type R cams for skunk stage 1 it made a huge difference. V-tec screamed and if you think about it you will need to get cam gears sooner or later. Also i used mine on stock valve train.

I agree that they are not worth it.. I have them in my car and they are nothing to write home about. They offer about 4-5whp over the CTR cams. The large gains the other guy saw could be from tunning. Who knows. I talked to Omni about these cams and he agree's... little gain over CTR cams.

^ Tell me why you couldent disagree more? I mean facts!

The facts are is that the Stage 1's only make minimal gains above the CTR cams and they are not even close to OEM quality. All that for an extra $500 bucks when he already has CTR's, not a SMART buy.

A suggestion of mine, if you would like to keep costs down but still make good power for your money (Buddy Club Spec III+'s) should run in the high $400's BRAND NEW and many plots show atleast 10+ HP gains over CTR's. Turn around and sell your CTR's and almost break even, now thats a SMART deal.

Funny you say that....Steve (omni) suggested I buy the cams and tuned the car. My car had 12:5:1 compression and loved the cams.

Hmm. Everytime I talked to him he seemed to agree with me that they offered little gains over the CTR cams...

Keep in mind he worked for Skunk2 at the time back when they were in hayward.....I know he won't support anything those guys produce now and that may be the reason.

Yes, I was aware of that... which is part of the reason why I figured he, if anyone, would know best about what the cams were designed to do.

You can run S1's with an ITR valvetrain. I don't know if I'd pick up S1's unless I came close to breaking even by selling my CTR's. If you're gonna upgrade, might as well go further . I'm not denying that they're sweet cams though. Some guy that used to frequent the integra forum came close to 190 whp on his stock block GS-R before bending the valves somehow (Neo1Z = username). I'm just saying, from a money saving standpoint, I probably wouldn't do it... but I'm a broke *** so who knows

Anyone know how the ramp angles on the skunk2 cams compare to the buddy clubs? I know toda ramp angles are pretty severe, and i was just wondering about the skunk2s....

15 whp increase? that's huge, but i'm assuming tha 12.5 compression had a lot to do with that. i'll only be at 11.1 i think ( stock jdm b18cr )

i distinctly remember reading in a thread here on H-T where Omni said that when both CTR's and S2S1's are tuned, that the increase is minimal...2-3whp. i can't say the same because i've only owned CTR's, but, i don't know........
