Default overheating..thermostat??? help

ok so my friends 93 accord ex is overheating. one day while she was waiting to get someone, a lot of fluid was spotted under the car and a little steam coming out. removed the radiator and had ti checked out, the guy said it was bad. the rubber on the cap was swollen making pressure buildup. anyways he said the radiator was bad so we changed it. put it in, bled the coolant, and the temperature still goes all the way up to H. when i got out the lower radiator hose wasnt even hot really...which makes me believe the thermostat wont openup . what do u guys think...if its the thermostat how much r those n where should i go. thanks.

The upper raditor hose will get hot when the thermostat opens up. Check that the cooling fan is kicking off and on especially when the car is running hot. The fan should stay on when you turn your car off when its over-heating. If it doesn't I'd definately chk the fan motor and fan switch. good luck and let us know what you find.

The thermostat, at the lower hose, opens up allowing lower temp coolant to run through the head and block, then circulates back through the upper radiator hose. A faulty/stuck thermostat will cause the lower pipe to be hot, but not allow the above circulation, meaning the upper pipe will not be hot.
Change out the thermostat. Where to get it from? I usually get mine from any local auto pars store, they have worked fine so far...

sometimes the thermostat gets frozen closed this happen to my friends 5th gen last week in Nyc when the temp dropped dramatically... all he did was drain, spray a hose with luke warm water in for a few mins, refilled with coolant, and it worked again perfectly fine... but it sounds like a thermostat problem. doesnt hurt to change it anyway only like 15-30$ at a local parts store.
