Actually, I recently found out what's up with that. Apparently, the bulb provider (I don't remember who it was, we'll just pick someone like Sylvania) had given a bad batch to Volvo, and of course since it's such a huge quantity, it was like ALL the Volvos of that time period had the problem. That single problem, completely unrelated to the actual Volvo production line and quality, apparently gave them a really terrible reputation at the time and cost them many sales.

actually its the turn signal/corner blinker light and it fell off while driving down the road under normal driving conditions...volvo engineering
