2001 Honda Prelude Type w/MAJOR PROBLEMS...HELP
01 Prelude Type SH
1-01-02
When I shifted from 3rd to 4th on 1-10-02 my car made this high pitched cracking noises from the engine bay. When I engaged into gear the car didnt seem right and made noises and I pulled over to the side of the road.
Here's whats going on with my car:
-Little/or no pressure in clutch
-Check engine light is NOT on
-I can not go into any gear
-Cracking noises from the engine bay when I push the clutch down at idle
-When I put the car in 1st gear it jumps foward and stalls
Anyone know what caused this problem and what the problem may be?
Right now my car is at the dealership service department. My car only has 9,100 miles. The service advisor said that they will check out my car on monday (1-14-02). My car is stock, besides a shift ****, shift boot, and autometer gauges...which are electrical, volt gauge and oil pressure (not even hooked up).
Thanks

I did a similar thing to my civic. I ended up breaking a spring loose out of the clutch, it made a noise that made me cringe the whole way home. I had my mechanic put a new clutch in and it's still rolling strong.
does that mean my tranny is still good? I my car is still under warranty because I only have 9,100 miles.
How is honda service? Are the mechanics reliable?
thanks

i didnt drive at all....the car could not be driven. I got it towed right then and there.
I can't go into any gear. I can only go into a gear when the car is turned off. When I start the car in first gear the car will jump foward and stalls. I had an intake and exhaust on the car, but I removed them both and reinstalled the factory exhaust and intake, so the service department wouldnt give me BS.

The tranny should be fine then. How have you been driving the lude for the last 9000 miles and how were you driving when the clutch blew?

it might be the pressure plate hes saying that he cannot even get inot first gear when he steps onto the clutch theres not pressure for the hydrolic solinoid to engage. or it might have been the synchos. even though its a new ride the tranny could have been fuked up from the honda dealership themselves., ive had friends that have worked for honda dealerships and have ragged the **** out of new ludes and civics with few amount of miles on them.
There is little/near no pressure in the clutch.
Where is the pressure plate located? I just got a call from Honda Service and they told me that the car has aftermarket parts on it "racing parts". When I towed the car to their shop, all it had on it was a shift ****, shift boot, gauges and a radio. I then talked to the Service manager and he said there is a $70 diagnosis fee if the problem was not a factory defect. He also said that he will check if there had been any abuse to the clutch.
Why is warranty work such a pain in the ***??

The pressure plate is located next to the clutch. I figured that they would try to say you abused it. Good luck getting them to fix it.
i hate honda mechanics too. my 88 si that i bought privately, had many problems with it. So what did i do? I took it to honda, thinking i would get excellent service. ...HAHAHAHAHAHA! i think the car would of been better off with me doing the repairs. and come to think of it, some of the mechanics that they hired were crack heads that i knew of from my old high school. oh well...find a nice, honest mechanic (thats funny, honest...) like a mom and pops place, and just go there. (after the warranty of course)
Take a copy of this with you next time if they keep trying sh*t http://www.sema.org/warranty/
Warranties are only voided by aftermarket parts if they caused the problem. If they can prove your shift boot caused the problem, then monkeys might fly out of my butt.
Also, if you're not satisfied with the Honda dealer attitude/repairs, etc. you can have warranty work done elsewhere. Call the 1-800 # for your region in the owner's manual and tell them your problems. Also read your warranty booklet.
Dealers will always test you to see how much you know and what they can get away with telling you.
