HALP!!! 97 Prelude Trans Issue
My prelude is a 97 non-sh with 220xxx miles and suddenly it is giving me a weird issue that I cant seem to find anywhere online or in any forum. I have had this car for seven years.
Here is the issue. When taking off in either reverse, first, or even second gear the car shakes violently. The engine idle is fine. Once I get going everything seems fine. My guess it is a clutch or trans-axle issue. It is not throwing codes so once again it is not the engine.
Second gear is also hard to shift into. I have ground second gear numerous times because it has always given me issues. Th new problem is that once i get past the violent shaking, shifting into second involves first great clutch neutral clutch second. Only second gear is like this.
Any ideas? Violent shaking when taking off even in reverse. No codes. Engine runs fine. Shift into second difficult.

Yeah that is what i have gathered from my research. I have also gathered it could be the throw out bearing. I will probably be replacing clutch, TO bearing, and flywheel. Thanks.

Determined it is the transmission itself. Clutch and TO bearing are not showing any symptoms of failure. I believe it is the transmission itself.
When idling with the clutch pushed in, shifting between first and second repeatedly will cause the transmission to lock up making the car jump. It also jams and jumps in reverse. The car does not jam or jump in third, forth, or fifth.
Time for a new trans.

I'd be curious to find out what exactly failed on it...if you get anymore details please let us know, because these tranny's arnt known for out of the blue failure like this.

So the tranny is fine. I can shift into every gear without the clutch. Finally got everything apart and the clutch is shot as well as broken.
Should be back on the road soon.
