Default OMP's Tourismo Helmet vs Simpson's LXF Helmet

Hey guys! I'm shopping for a helmet and have narrowed my choices between OMP and Simpson. I am leaning towards getting the Simpson due to the price but love how the OMP looks. My question is, is it just me or the Simpson LXF model seem to have a wider opening for the face. I prefer the narrow opening of the OMP and am hoping Simpson's version is close to it. I hope all you out there that have or had either one of these helmets could comment on it. Thanks!

. . . . are the visors adjustable? I mean, could it be adjusted lower to achieve that narrow opening for the face? Just had extra questions come to mind.

I use the LXF. It has the largest eyeport of any helmet I tried on. The visor on the LXF isn't adjustable, unless you call removing it adjustable.

I haven't worn the OMP.

Thanks JoelG . . . . guess that rules out that helmet. I was afraid it would look like to much of a motorcross helmet.

I have to know. What do you have against a helmet with a larger eyeport?

Not sure why he does but I did it for safety (feeling/sense of). Started feeling kinda open with my M2 w/ the big eyeport. I do like it for auto-xing however (and wore it until I had a problem w/ the visor for that purpose).

I think for the same price as the OMP, I'd go this route (but I prefer a closed face helmet)

I beat this horse a lot so just ignore me if you want to, but I can't for the life of me figure out why we wear Nomex and buy fire systems out of fear of fire, and then even consider wearing an open-face helmet.

My list of nasty **** I've seen hit racers, in or near their faces, gets longer every year but we all do what we are most comfortable with.

I have an M2. I leave the visor down, and I use it for autocross. I like the large eyeport because I wear glasses

I have the OMP Turismo (SA95 version). I like it. I just used it for autocross and HPDEs, though. I'm hoping to start in HC this year, so my next helmet will be a full face type, probably a Bell M4-Pro (isn't that the one replacing the M2-Pro?) due to the reasons listed by Knestis. :bigthumb:

I have always worn glasses in my helmets, the M3 is no different (despite that its near half the eyeport opening size). The one difference is that they do tend to ride on the cusion vs. using my ears for supprt - since they are sunglasses in my case and I presume eye glasses in yours, that might be a deal breaker. Biaffe also has a similar opening size to the M3 but it might have less of a ledge (for that hanging thing). Personally, I say if its for road racing, the smaller the eyeport the better.

Edit: forgot; the big advantage of the M3/Vortex over the M2 is the weight - IIRC, they were 2 lbs. less than my old M2 (and that's nice to take that off you shoulders)

I have an M3, I wear the visor down and cracked when I'm in something that makes me worry about getting hit just below the eye by a ~100 mph bit of asphalt (again). I was an inch away from losing an eye while instructing in a student's car. I thought I'd take a big hit in being able to communicate while helmeted but I haven't been asked to speak up (yet). Maybe I'm just loud.

I've got the 0703 Formula Helmet from OMP. Its an awesome helmet but I do have some gripes...

- Snell95 - Is there any way I can get the helmet re-snelled? Kind of like harnesses?

- Visibility kind of sucks. When sitting in low buckets, its a natural reaction to tilt your head back a little. With this helmet, if you tilt your head back even the slightest bit, you'll find yourself staring at the inside of the helmet. Side to side visibility is fine, its just looking down (ie at your guages) that might be a headache. Now before someone says that I should have opted for the WideEye, let me state that according the Aaron at Driving Impressions, the WideEye's eye port is only taller, as in the bottom stays the same, and I also was able to get the helmet for about half price.

The quality, comfort, and finish on the helmet is awesome. Made by AGV, it leaves little to be desired. It fits snug, the strap is comfortable, and its pretty light too.

If you're shopping for the OMP, I would contact:
