why did you even bother answering??....
I have heard of people removing the undercoating (some scrape it off, some hear I think) and re-painting.....a lot of work....but it your building an all-out show car it could be worth it (I wouldn't do it)....

about how much weight would be removed from the undercoating do you think? I know it would initiate rust, but paint is lighter then that rubbery stuff....
I believe that rubbery stuff also prevents road debris from inflicting serious damage to the underside. I don't think it would be wise to remove it, especially from the gas tank and stuff.
I've never seen it done and I don't think i would ever go through the trouble of removing it just to paint it. That rubber undercoating has lasted this well for the last 15 or so years and I know there isn't any kind of paint that could take that abuse. Unless you are a full blown show car, I don't see the need.

I remember which car you were talking about. The guy was doing a complete restoration and had the car in a rotisserie (sp?).
