Default How mod friendly is my d16 I have in my 91 si (big plans)? It has high milage help....

Im planning on tooling around in it alot, and I have to be honest here to get the advice I need. Ive rallied all my injens (EJ22T, 2.0Liter Protege Turbo, B16A2, D16Y6, and a TDI PD triptronic which I just got). Im hard on them. The d16 has almost 200,000 miles. It was taken good care of, and no problems yet I just picked it up last week... Maybe you can tell me how much money im looking at for what type of budget, and which parts I need to buy to get this baby running solid and smooth again. Not that it's not running good, but I need it running strong, feel me? Im eventually thinking about maybe a supercharger for this little guy.... Then maybe he wont be so little hahaha.

I have lot's of little questions but to start off is it worth it in the long run to upgrade stock engine parts now with aftermarket goodies such a new CAM then possibly injectors maybe a quality fuelrail some pistons a little headwork/ect like whatever I need to get it ready for a Jackson Racing Supercharger? Also can I get an LSD, and Heavy Duty racing clutch to handle the power this built mini me is gonna throw down for a cable trans? The 91 si's had cable trans right? Im going to most likely bolt up an eBay exhaust (headerz, high flow cat, 3" cat back) after the engine work, then if I have the bank for it im gonna hook up the sc, and then if im satisfied with the performance beef up this tranny, or say **** it and get another b series. BUT my goal is to have a kick *** D Series, too many B series swaps running around these days for another one to be special IMHO.

After all that is said and done I might be looking at full coilovers, sway bars, strut bars, tie bars, 16" rota slips/azensis, gsr 4 lug disc brake conversion and then my dream will come true and I will have the ultimate daily driver, but this time around im investing in one of the nicest alarms and some other security features like a quick release hub, titanium hood (LOL?) with prototype lockable hood pins, lo-jack ect. EF's are theft magnets here, my EG with a brand new b16a2 swap didnt get stolen luckily, but it wasn't as nice behind the scenes as my EF is going to be...

Of course im not going to get any body modifations no window tint nothing except possibly an aftermarket tailpipe sticking out the back (If I decide to go the aftermarket exhaust route, I have a hunch that my car with a sc benifits a little more than the same engine turbo'd when it comes to exhaust bolt ons (this is a question btw)). Anyway im just loving having an ef again and dreaming about parts (I can't help it im really an addict at <3 for racing and rallying around honda's becuase they are so versitile). They are addicting little cars to rally around in. Im suprised how well it corners compared to my old crx dx on tokico blues/stock springs/stealies. And the seats are truely amazing. Ive never had si seats b4. Your not in ur right mind I think If you ever upgrade EF si seats unless ur tracking the car, but this is Honda-Tech....

I'll get some pics of how clean/mint this car is when I find the time. It's getting a new alarm, two speakers/tweeters (RS6) with dynamat in the doors they should sound nice and crisp, my headunit is cheap, but it has a removable face . Still deciding if I want a subwoofer to slow me down... The carpet in this ride is amazing, I can't believe how clean it is I would consider it *mint*, people are already telling me I need to swap in an integra dash, but thats not me, I like crx dash's better, but im fine with the look and feel of an si dash. I like how it has lots of flat room on top where I can put my cell phone or wallet or a cd case. Anyway I hope you see past the rant and get to the questions in this post. I just couldn't help it I gotta talk about my new si and how happy I am with it, and how I think I finally found a car I could stick with for the years to come. Im just hoping I won't regret it.

Make It Better

have you tried searching yet? Most everything your asking can be answered by searching. I'd post links, but its late and i gotta go to sleep.

be sure to check the FAQ's at the top of the page too.

GOOD LUCK

i'm dizzy.

but ill try. 1st- i don't think you mean rally. if you do, then you need to buy a rulebook, skip the boost, and forget about 16's and anything that resembles an azenis.in fact, i have no idea what you mean. i think you are just saying you drive hard sometimes- on the street.

ok- motor, well taken care of, no problems... what are you trying to fix? most jrsc kits are designed for stock internals. your 200k motor probably needs a simple stock rebuild to handle it. but there are cheaper/better routes if this is all that you want. search for ideas and the fuel/ecu upgrades you'll need for each of them.

yes, cable tranny. yes you can have an lsd. and a clutch. use the search button

you dont have a mini-me. that is something else. use the search button (you edited and fixed that part)

as for the rest- think slower and do some research. the wallet in your dash will thank you.

sorry if i sound like a dick about the searching (ok, not really. do it), but this is all **** that has been figured out and discussed at length here, and you'll find better anwers in that magin top-right button.

when you can't find an answer, ask A(like, one concise and conherent one) question. it's a lot easier to read than digging through something that long and will be more likely to get you a useful reply.

Thanks, thats all I was asking. You saw past the post and answered the main question. Honestly the only thing I needed to know was if my 200k engine can run like a champ after a "rebuild". My other big question was after some new engine mods is it possible to acheive the level of performance I crave, I know I don't need it, but after reading a feature in an old magazine about a JRSC hooked up to an EF Si I was set on the d16 non vtec to get my dream setup. I think you answered that as well, since you stated these questions have all been answered and discussed at length. Appreciate it.

w/ a proper rebuild and the required fuel and ecu setup the jrsc would be no problem. it might take the boost for a little while just like it is. but what i was saying is that there are other, often cheaper ways to get the same levels of performance (and much higher), especially since it doesn't sound like you are going to be doing the motorwork yourself, and that if you poke around a little you might find that your dream setup will change. good luck .

Are you trying to convince me to reconsider and go the turbo route? I am starting to seriously consider it, but im so turned off by FMIC becuase they are eye catchers and tempt people.

no convincing. just look hard at the goals, the options, and the costs.

my opinion on that budget- i'd swap a b series before rebuilding the d w/ stock spec parts and buying a jrsc and go from there.

and there are lots of way to turbo the d and have it look like a sleeper.

hey, if your looking for more power on little money to start, you could try dropping in a LS motor. Build on that, and even turbo it with little trouble.
