do you think this long drive will be oK? (timing belt related)
My car has about 101k miles on it, I havent been able to afford to do the timing belt change, although I will be doing it next month. The problem is I need to pick up someone wich is about a 3 hour drive from here to there, and then back. Do you think this is safe? i have been trying not to drive the car as much and not run it hard, but this is an emergency.... do you think it will be safe or should i rent a car? I know if that **** breaks im fucked real bad.
i would say, generally, yes you should be ok. i would, however, at least look at the condition of the belt to at least make sure there are no rips or cracking taking place.

how long would you say that procedure takes, i got a helms... but i am on a bit of a time constraint. Also is there something i can lube or make the belt last a bit longer, at least for the wear and tear of this trip?

i would say if you have never done a timing belt change it could take a good day and a half to a full day (rough guess) plus, you say your on a time constraint so take into account if the store doesn't have the belt in stock you might have to wait for it to arrive. then your faced with, if you going to the trouble you might as well replace the other things they reccomend you change at the same time, like the waterpump, tensioner, balancershaft belt, etc.

really? looks like he's asking whether or not it's safe to drive a certain distance rather than how long it takes to look at the belt... why would you want to know how long it takes to look at one? i can take .5 seconds to glance at one? hehe, i just saw his other post. reading owns me

he's asking how long it takes to check the belt. to answer your question, i think it wouldn't take more than 10-15mins. I'm pretty sure you'll be okay. I know a lot of people who drive around with 120kmiles with the original belt. But just check to make sure

haha i have my helms and just to look at it looks complicated and time consuming... im getting the feeling there is an easier way... what way do you look at it?
remove spark plug wires
pull the valve cover
pull the upper timing cover
grab flashlight
examine belt
poke and prod belt
reinstall upper timing cover
reinstall vavle cover with hondabond for gasket
reinstall spark plug wires in proper order
be on your merry way
if you knuckle down and do it, and have never done it before, i would budget an hour, maybe a tick more.

Grow up retard.
I didn't change by belt till about 115k and I was fine so I'd imagine you'll be fine as well.

Yeah u should be fine really, Im sure you could go 120K or more if you wanted to but keep in mind if it snaps (which I honestly doubt it will) then your screwed. I'd say go for it but change it soon after. Good luck!
WTF ?
Four days ago he should have been told to go get his friend ....then look into the belt. A 3 hour drive (200 miles ?) more on a 101k miles......why should he worry about that and.....Rent a car ? ......you gotta be kidding ?
