master cylinder fluid
okay, my master clutch cylinder is leaking (i checked near teh clutch)
the actual container, in the top right hand side of teh engine bay....is pretty much close to empty, if not fully empty....
i know it says to fill up with either with DOT 3 OR DOT4....which one should I use?
does it make a difference?
what happens if i orginally had dot3 and now put dot 4? mixing the dot3 and dot4...does that do anything?

the higher the number the better. mixing won't affect performance. although for consistency it is better to flush and then replace if another type of fluid is used. obviously i would try to fix the leak as well.
The higher number might have a higher boiling point, but it will also absorb more moisture and lead to more internal damage of brake parts; like rust inside the calipers and wheel cylinders. DOT 4 requires flushing 1 time a year, Dot 3 requires flushing every 3 years. In 20 years of working on cars I've never NEVER seen a street car boil DOT3 fluid.
