Hi, I've never really dealt with Accords before, so that's why I'm posting. My father is looking for a decent Accord in Ohio with either low miles, or a swap. He's got $6000 to spend, and we're kind of wondering what's out there as far as possibilities. Also, we've been wrenching on Hondas for pretty much all of my life, and pretty much all of his, so we know what we're doing for the most part. However, what is there to look for in an Accord, and what can we expect to buy for 6 grand? Also, anyone interested in selling?
Thanks!
Thanks!
well, most swapped 5th gen accord (94-97) go for around 5 geez from what i've seen...what is your dad looking to do with the car? just make a sportier import?

Well, the old man digs the Preludes, but he needs something that's got a little more room to haul my siblings around in. He's owned corvettes, MGs, Spitfires.... and now he has to buy a family car. I thought that rather than allow him to go out and waste the dough on a Nissan Maxima or something worse, he could get a sporty 4 door Accord with (hopefully) an H22. Basically this will just be a sporty commuter car.
just be careful when buying other people's work...also, find out info on where/when the motor was purchased and what kind of info the person had on the motor when it was purchased...also, find out what all has been replaced on the motor when the swap was completed (as in timing belt, clutch, etc) so that you don't encounter any problems down the road...also, make sure the parts used in the swap are good quality pieces...if the job looks half assed, don't be afraid to turn it down...

Yeah. We've done swaps into 4th gen Civics and CRXs, so being able to judge the quality shouldn't be too hard. Thanks for the replies... oh, and I wonder if there's actually someone in Ohio that wants to sell one.
Hey man, don't bash the Max, that car can go fast as hell for pretty cheap
Anyways, yeah I do like my hondas better tho. I'd be careful about buying swaps that other people did just because it can be one hell of a headache if you don't know how it was done. With $6000, I'd find a 5th gen for around $3500-4000 (just look they are out there for that cheap
), and for $2000 or less pick up an H22 and do it yourself. Good luck with your decision tho!

Nah. He doesn't want to wrench. He's my dad, and he was actually very cool about helping me learn to work on Hondas. But he just doesn't want to do a swap himself. I just thought it would be a neat car to run the little brothers around in, and still give him something to race my CRX with on the weekends.

hmmmm.....6g's will land you something OK. The 5th gens still resale for a lot for a decent one. You could land a 6th gen if your lucky. If he wants a decent fast car Id say get a Maxima. Those cars are rather quick and will give a Accord with a H22 a run for its money. Search around on the 95+ Maximas and you'll see that they aint no joke.
If you really wanna take on a project, try to get a 6th gen V6 and attempt the CL Type S swap with the 6 spd.
