Default RPM's

I am a real newbie at cars so here it goes... What should be the highest RPMS I should rev to whether it be in neutral or in gear. Will it hurt the motor to rev near, not over 6200(redline)? When Im usually driving sometimes I like to go until about 5-6k until I shift. Is this bad for the car/engine?

well, i'm guessing you have an auto since you said "when it shifts"...for the factory f22 accord motors, redline is at 6250...you'll notice on your tach that the red starts at this location...as for the neutral revving, this isn't great for your car since there is no load on the motor or tranny...

back when i had my f22, i would shift at about 6400 rpm's...the reason for this is not b/c it made more power up there, because it certainly did not, but to make my rpms land right at the tourque peak once i shifted into my next gear...also, running your car up high like this is actually good for your motor to do on a regular basis (as long as it's not done in excess)...
