How to add oil to my y8 tranny? Please help!
Hey everyone I just swapped a y8 tranny on my car replacing the z6. I need to put oil in the tranny now and never have done it. I was wondering what is the best place to put the oil in it and easiest? I see there a sensor on top of the trannny that will unscrew with a 19mm and has a harness that hooks right were my 02 sensor hooks. can I poor the oil in this hole? also how much oil should I put in it? and last would gtx 10w 30 oil be ok to put in it? Let me know what you think guys. Thanks! Nick
well, there should be a 17mm bolt on the passenger side of the car, on the transmission. remove that and then fill in there, you can use a funnel with a hose at teh end. make sure that all of the fluid is out of it, you can use a 3/8 ratchet and remove the drain plug first to make sure its empty. you can use 10w30 oil but i would recommend going to honda and buying some mtf. its not that expensive. you will probably need 3 quarts to be safe. hope it helps
If you can get the vss out of the tranny then its really easy to fill it there.. Either way you need to remove the 17mm bolt and however you fill it when fluid starts to run out of there, your full.. Make sure your on level ground before filling it..

Ahh yes, I wonder if you can fill it there also, it all goes to the same place?

it will be right, best bet would definately be the VSS. However if you have one of the quart containers with the tapered pour cap, it would work in the back-up switch Boss
I just did it on the side of the tranny. Was very very easy. Thanks for the help guys but to anyone I would just recommend doing on the 17mm plug on the side. I picked up a little thing from wal-mart that has a hose and funnel thing on it made it 100% easier and was only $2.95.

I've never thought of taking off the vss sensor to fill the tranny with oil. That's a good idea.
Aren't you also supposed to take off the bolt on the driver side so you know when it's full?
When it starts to pour out you know it's full, right?
