JDM Type R Pistons W/USDM GSR Rods???
I'm planning to rebuild my 1995 GSR and im wanting to get p73 type r pistons which should bump my compression up around 11:3 and im wanting to know if they will work with stock gsr rods?
I'm wanting to do the same....my GSR has 113k miles on it. I want to put in some new pistons and rings. A local shop said they'd give me Type R pistons, rings, hone the block and install it all for 550

did you ever experience 'pinging'?

Everything should work, just make sure they are installed properly. If your worried about clearance issues then just use some clay (or the installer) and check that way.

i have usdm itr pistons on gsr rods at about 10.8:1-11.0:1 compression and its nice. make sure you get new oem rings and new oem headgasket and your good to go.
either way you go you will have more comrpession then an itr motor which decent for a street car

yeah that install will definitly work just did the same install over the weeekend. pistons and rods went in nicely. i had a local machine shop hang the pistons on the rods for me.
Sorry for my ignorance but if I replace the pistons and rings regardless of which ones I use should I replace the bearing as well? The motor has 113k miles on it. Also are the ARP headstuds worth getting? My buddy swears by them.

You might as well get the arp head bolt. STock head bolt are not to be torque to specs more that once, nor is it recommened that arp should be either. Just be safe and get a set of head bolt.

ARP headstuds arnt necesary unless your doing some serious. from what it looks like your setup will eventualy be its not that hardcore. BUT if your not on a limited buget and time frame then i would get them even it was a stock motor rebuild. Which bearings are you replacing? i would just get the rod and crank bearings replaced since all that is going to be taken out n the process anyway. you should be able to get a main and rod bearing set for like 75-100 bux from a machine shop
