9 miles to gallon.. swapped cx.
I can no longer afford to fill my tank up every other day so I come to h-t in search of help. I have a 93 cx hatch swapped with a 97 gsr b18c1 running obd-1. Ever since I got this thing on the road I've been getting shitty gas mileage but I havent been worrying because I've had a bunch of cash and no problems refilling my tank. But now I'm broke, and I calculated my gas mileage last night. Under 100 miles to a tank! I cant afford to do this anymore. Can someone give me some beginners tips on checking it out and what to look for causing this? Also my cars been shooting tons of white smoke out of the back.. I was hoping it was just because of how cold it is, but I dont think thats the case.
Sigh, TIA

Gas leak
check all your fuel pipes, Mainly check the gas Tank itself for a leak, next check out the fuel return and the fuel rail and where the 2 lines go into the rail. Im saying its a gas leak.
Peace

uberdata p72. i didnt install it. no mods. filter clamped to tb
my car is also idling horrible.. when you first start it up in the morning it can go as high as 2700, but will settle down to 1400. when its been on for a while (more than an hour) it dips to 1k.

stock mpg on a b18c1 is definitely not 9 miles to the gallon...
filter clamped to the TB? you don't have an arm?
Sounds like you might have air in your coolant that's causing it to idle kinda high before dropping...any check engine lights btw?
Bad gas mileage is usually: Bad fuel filter (cheap and easy to fix) bad plugs (not enough spark could lead to fuel loss) bad injector, bad O2 sensor, dead cat.
Also, you're running premium grade gas right? Next time you fill up, set the odometer and drive it till you're bout 1/4 tank, then let us know what your at.
Under 100 miles to a full tank, there's something DEFINITELY wrong...you're getting robbed!

my cat is brand new. everything else that was mentioned I will definatly look into.. no I dont have an arm for the intake. I will get one. Is draining the coolant as simple as a plug on the bottom of the radiator?
uh. i'm probably gonna get flamed for this but do I have to be using supreme gas? :X

premium guys...PREMIUM is minimum for this motor i believe...running cheap 87 grade gas could affect the proformance of the motor i believe...and also on the gas door and cluster it calls for premium i think too...
You dont have to drain the coolant...just check the level...open the cap and look to see if it's full...if not, start the car...let it warm up and start adding coolant till it gets full.
Good luck

its gotta be a combiination of things. o2 alone wont cause that. i'm throwing my o2 code and am still getting 36mpg in my z6 swapped hatch. yea i know its a little different then b18c but still. check your fuel system 9mpg is messed up. good luck

yeah that is true, BTW, your car is clean, when you gonna get a lip for it?

correct me if i'm wrong but i've always heard that gas mileage is dominantly determined by throttle position, which would make sense. i've heard many stories of guys in v8s getting a lower final drive and they get better gas mileage around the city because they dont have to hit the gas as hard to get moving. also if the car thinks you're at WOT then you're mpg would go way down

Its definatly possible my spark plugs are shot.. I bog under WOT where my car just cuts out and stops accellerating, and my friend said that was because of shitty spark plugs. I'll definatly look into replacing those
i would do a complete tune up on your car...
oil, plugs, wire, dist cap, rotor, o2...
basically the basics...that mileage is wack..i even get better mileage with a cable b16 tranny on my gsr motor...with a chipped ecu....
oh. premium fuel all the way..
