Default 2004 Accord - Windshield crack due to cold weather - Covered on warranty?

On my way home I had the heat on full (AUTO) and it was blowing out where the defroster is (by the windshield) and my windshield cracked. My temp. gauge said that it was 34 degrees outside. Is this covered on my standard 36000 mile 36 month warranty?

If not, do my insurance rates typically increase if I claim windshield repair/replacement on my insurance? Thanks.

No, it's not covered on your warranty. And it is never good to make any claims on your insurance if it is less than the deductable, because, yes your insurance will go up. Unless you have free glass coverage. How big is the crack? You might be able to have the crack repaired without replacing the whole window.

It goes up about 3 inches and then turns right for a few more inches. If this isn't repairable, anyone know how much a new windshield costs? If they can't repair it, I'll have them put a stop at the end of the crack and just live with it for a few years before replacing it. Goddamnit I'm so angry.

If it's not a chip or a small crack you should replace it..... ummm I really don't think they can put stops to cracks to keep them from getting larger.

i dont know qbout your state, but in NC, if you have full coverage, glass is 100% covered, no deductable, and now rate increase b/c its a serious safety item. might wanna check with your insurance company on that

check with honda.. you have a good chance that it IS covered under warranty for part defect. if nothing hit the glass and it cracked they have a policy about stress cracks which are covered under warranty. i know because my friend went through this and the dealer replaced it under warranty for that reason. so don't rule it out until you've tried.

sure you or noone poured hot water on their windshiled trying to get the ice off??? i never seen cars heater crack a windshield before

but it sounds like its not repairable, try asking around and get a price quote.. so you know your not getting ripped off by just asking 1 shop.

Well being 2am when I got home it was too dark to really look, yesterday morning I noticed a tiny chip at the bottom, which was obviosly the reason it started. Now I'm wondering if the chip cracked it on the way home, or if the chip had already been there and the cold just made the chip crack my glass.

Anyway, I took it to the glass place and they put a bubble at the end of the crack to make it stop from spreading. This didn't work on my Expedition and it continued to spread, so if the same happens to my car I'll see about getting a new windshield with 100% coverage. The insurance people already tried to screw me over yesterday and wanted to get a new windshield and have me pay the deductable. I don't want higher insurance rates, I'd rather pay $200 cash.

Glass isn't covered under any type of Warranty. Always be careful not to warm your car up with the defrost on the windshield when you have a chip or a slight crack. The heat from the heater will accelerate the crack because of expansion and contraction of the crack start.

if you dont have the funds to get new glass.....you will be (unsafe) able to pass inspection as long as it doesnt impair the drivers vision
