alternator question
how high do the rpms have to be inorder for the alternator to give the battery a good charge? i just bought a battery popped it in and left the bike idol for 30 mins (dad suggested that idle was good enough for the alternator to charge the battery). im worried it didn't do its job. i havent had the time to ride it more than 30 mins a day this past week (only been on a couple 10 min rides around the area). i know i should have put a trickle charger to it when i first bought the battery but i don't have one at the moment. any help is appreciated. ohh btw i don't want to admit it, it FELT like the bike was being a little lazy when i started her up tonight (maybe im just being paranoid).
Your Alt will come online between 800RPM- 1200RPM cant say definte numbers for sure. If its a brand new battery and still having trouble turning over maybe you might look into your starter. If your bike doesnt start in the first ten seconds stop and wait like 20 -40 sec's before staring it again or might overheat the stater then you will always have problems. You might also have a defective battery but probbly not. Put it on a charger to know its got plenty of juice to know for sure then trouble shoot from there.
