i seem to be running into rubbing issues with my snow cables, the inner cable wires rubs my knukle arm. Raising or lowering won't solve the issue, do i have to buy some spacers or different snow cables.
- do all snow cables rub the same?

Snow cables barely fit on our cars when they're not lowered. Its probably the tire size that's giving you the problems. It'll probably be easier and cheaper to buy a sweet pair of studded tires mounted on steelies and change them out when the going gets rough, unless you need the trunkroom.

 

i don't think i am allowed to use them instead of snow cables, when i go snow boarding in big bear they won't let me go unless i have snow chains or 4wd w/ snow tires.????

Do you have the correct size cables? I know when I bought mine I had a hell of a time finding a set that fit 205/50/15 tires. Out of the 100 boxes there was 1 and if there was another I didnt see it.

Maybe its because you have some wider tires on those itr rims.

Sounds like you could fix it with either
A: Wheels with more offset.
B:Skinner tires
C:Extended studs and some spacers.

get some nokian hakkapeliittas I have studded hakka 2's & them ***** are unstoppable serious best winter tire IMO (& I have had blizzax & artic alpins) pretty good dry grip too (for studded tires)

Thats cool... I never knew they made suck a thing, I only thought they had chains.

 

They are allot quieter too.

 

What the hell would you use those for? I mean i know for you its a requirement to go skiiing, but I get around fine with out them.

95 GSR's with cheap tires! Works wonders in snow.

Thats completely tru for some of us but they make people use them because of soccer moms that want to drive 80mph while talking on the cell phone and drink a frappichino at the same time.

Telling them to drive slow dosent cut it. So chp makes them install chains/wires so when they speed the links brake and beat the crap out of the side of their car. lol

EDIT: people can barely handle the rain here in socal let alone snow.

 

People are ******* idiots. I worked for a plow company for 2 years in Massachusetts, I rocked a Pontiac Sunfire with all-season tires and routinely drove 10 miles to work in 6+" of snow, because the time I would have to go to work to start plowing would be WELL before town trucks went out to plow.

Get a cheap set of snow tires, you'll be much better off. Also learn that more gas doesnt = you'll get unstuck faster.

 

You lucky Americans with your snow cables and studded winter tires! I wish that was legal up here, cause I'd be rocking some studded snows.

I got a set this winter, tires, fully studded, and mounted and balanced on 14" steelies and shipped to my door for just under $400.

 

thanks for the input guys, im running 195/55r15 that came with the type r's. The snow cables (chains) have big a *** bracket were it locks up the inner wheel track of the cables. The oversized bracket was getting in the way so im just going to duct tape it out of the way. as for the rubbing wire, im just going to have manage.

Not all of america; they're illegal everywhere I've lived in the northeast too. I guess that's why I never heard of them.

 

I want to get a set of studded snows even though I'm not supposesd to have them here, cops never look at tires, and even if they did, they probably wouldn't even know what they're looking at. Could never find them up here though...

Probably because they're illegal. I've never seen them in stores either, but I suppose way up north (near the boarder) where they make roads on the lakes and have non-maintained roads, they might be a little lax about the issue.

 

If I lived in an area where there was snow on the roads for more than a month out of the year I would opt for some good tires. Chains and cables are noisy and dont last long if you drive faster than 25mph. And when they go so does the paint on your fender.

But for when it really gets nasty they are nice to have. You can buy them online for decent prices.

 

I never knew they had those. I gotta get a set. Where are they rubbing?
