Default For those in cold states: huge problem with inside of car defrosting, need help!!!

Anytime it gets really cold, my car will not defrost the inside windows. This is in Michigan and we're talking 0-20 degrees F. If the car is sitting still it does ok, but as soon as I start driving over 40mph for a continous amount of time it fogs up and then freezes inside! Also, while sitting still or warming up the car the temp gauge starts to rise and then when driving it will drop back to below the "C". It's a pain in the neck. I'm thinking possibly thermostat, or even my CAI which still goes down to the bumper. I've got about 113,000 on it so I wouldn't think the thermostat would be the problem. anyways, TIA, any help is appreciated.

My Car was having the same issue with the temp. I replaced my thermostat (maybe an hour of work) and it stopped. My guess is that is what is causing the defrost problem as well. The coolant is not being allowed too get to operating temperature because the thermostat fails open.

My thermostat is doing same thing, if my car is sitting and warming up, the thermostat will move up near half way, if i drive it'll go back down, or if i drive it won't go home, if i'm parked it'll go up.

But if it started acting like yours, I wouldn't hesitate to replace it.

It sure sounds like your T-stat is sticking open, at least partway. It was about zero F this morning, I parked outside & it was still dark when I had to go to work. It took awhile to warm up, but once warm it didn't cool back down during driving.

For the defrosting... you don't have the recirculation button pressed in, do you? You don't want that.
