a few q's about custom exhaust set ups (not the usual q thread)
for all those that made their own exhaust set up, or anyone that can at least answer these questions. (this is for CRX).
ok...so i am making my own exhaust set up and have a few general questions. i am using 2.5" steel conduit (stainles steel...can be bought at home depot and lowes). i stuck my head under the car today, and i was figuring out how to mount it up. i am going for 1 bend (N1 style..."up and out"). what degree of a bend did you guys use? i was thinking a 40 degree or a 42, but is that too little? the exhaust is comming straight back from the cat, and if i mount it straight back, it has to dip under the under tray on the rear end (where the stock exhaust makes its first bend), have you guys had any hanging problems with the exhaust bottoming out when the suspension compresses? also - if you have had problems, is there a way to make it hug closer to the car? my last couple of questions now...as far as resonation goes, i know that a straight back with only the rear canister will be loud. what size and type of muffler should i use? i was thinking maybe a 20" glass pack would do the job, but have you guys found anything that works better? and lastly....the hangers. where did you guys mount em? if i could get some pictures that would greatly help me, and maybe alittle diagram as to where mounting them would help greatly. i dont know if this design will use only 2 hangers or if it will require more. anyways, thanks a ton 4g crew. -Jon

Get a 22" resonator..Its still gonna be loud but will be deep and less rasp..
As far as mufflers go ,,any ebay muffler will do.
Is this the type of set-up you want to do??

Any clearance issues on this beast?

yea thats the kind of set up i want, but i was going to make it angle up alittle bit more. but that can be done when i go to mount the hangers and the mou nting bracket to the cat.
i want it to still be quite loud, like a real deep rumble at the lower rpms, with a roar at the upper rpms.

i did mine under the tank, used the regular hangers under the shifter, and then where the rear tow hook is i took a blot off welded a muffler hanger (the ones that have the ruber thing in em and a bunch of holes and bolted it on to the tow hook. looks and sounds awesome. it scrapes on speed bumps but barely not to the pint where it will bang the pipe. one thing to consider though the pipe is 2 and half inches away fopmr floor so for a car that is slammed this setup is not a good idea.
my personal favorite custom job is this one which only eliminates the final bend and has the left side exhuats exit of the bumper filled and shaved and painted:
I ordered an RSR cat-back last nite, but if i went custom, it would have looked something like that.
also search is your friend, we have an offical exhaust thread here,
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1083089
which has cstom setups on it and you can IM the people who made them and im sure most would love to tell you about it.

yea i read the exhaust thread :/. i wouldnt mind just deleting the final bend, but the two 90 degree bends are alittle much for me. i want a pretty much straight back design. im gunna draw some stuff out i guess so i can be alittle bit more specific towards what i want.
The slant angle mufflers are a tad ricey in my opinion.
BTW, I'll take your name as a compliment since copying is a sincere

I run a custom 2.5 bent to the stock location with no resonator and an ebay muffler... with my D16 i registered 113db 10 feet off the rear bumper on the dyno.... get a resonator! i've driven the car like this for 2 years now and every time i'm under the car i want to sawzall and weld in 3 15-20inch resonators lol.

I dont think its rice either..Sometimes slanting the muffler is the only to make it fit with our cars as far a canister style mufflers are concerned

Nope, not flaming, just saying the angled muffler is like Altezza taillights and
neon nozzles. EVERYONE and their grandmother is doing it, and most people
don't even know why.
I'm about to change my muffler which is a single 3 1/2 tip. I'm going back to the
old school/ stock style of two 2 1/2" tips instead. Looks better in my opinion
and doesn't draw too much attention from the cops.
Peace.

not to flame, but you call it rice, when...you want a dual tip? now this isnt my actual opinion but i could call rice on you for wanting a faux dual exhaust.

Dual tip is not equal to dual exhaust. Dual tip is how it came from the factory playboy.
