Im gonna buy a tranny from my buddies south cali, and he told me its a gsr, but i dont really know if it is or not...


is there a way you can tell the difference by looking at the casing? It has no stickers nor, stamps? also a b16 is almost like the gsr right? thanks in advance...

 

from my knowledge u cant tell from the casings.....because it could be any case on there....the only way is to test it out by driving the car with the tranny and checking top speed in each gear

 

if you look at the tanny in between the to top bolts it says YS1...

 

the only way to tell would be the serial number of the trans. gsr's and ls's both carry the s80 code. so if your buddy says its a gsr trans, you'll have to trust the guy so i hope he's a good buddy. if you do buy it, expect for the motor to turn 4000rpm at 80mph in 5th gear with stock (195/55/15) wheels and tires.
