MY 03 S2K, 30K miles, only mod aem V2 intake
Everything has been fine on the car until this morning when I get on the highway their is this LOUD WHINING almost howling sound coming from the engine bay, I chekced all the hoses and connections on the AEM except for filter because its hard to reach, The sound is only at high speeds under light accleration, the faster I go the louder the sound, when stopped and rev the car their is no sound. Does anybody have any ideas? thanks alot for you help in advance, I dont want to replace the stock filter because it is a PAIN IN THE ARS THANKS AGAIN!!!

if you just put the intake on, it could be the throtle body whinning, i kno i hear mine when under light acceleration..
more knowledgable s2kers will chime in soon enuff

it could be a few differnt things.... if you just installed your intake. it's basically your intake making the sound at low throttle/acceleration.... it's basically the way the air is going by the filter....

Sorry I wasnt specific, I put the intake on about 2 weeks ago, and this sound was definitely not there, i wish I could explain it better, sounds like a supercharger whine on the highway, again THANKS ALOT FOR all the responses

Thanks for all the replies, but why would the sound all of the sudden start happening, before it was just the increased sound from the aem (good sound) this sound is annoying and sounds bad, a loud whine/hum, no CEL light so thats good i guess. Again THANKS ALOT FOR REPLIES!

STFU

it just started to happen now cause you had to break in your intake hahahahahaa..
when the filter is brand new and clean there is absolutly no restriction at all.... the sound is just the air rushing passed teh filter in differnt angles.. and crap....
think of it this way.. if you got 2 glasses and you put water in it... on full and one half full.. and you blow above it.. it'll sound differnt....... so with your filter, when it's brand new will sound differnt then when it has some dirt and dust particles in it....
by the way... this will happen with all tube design intakes without a cover for the filter.... so injen, aem, 4ig will all eventually make this sound...

Have you tried reving the engine at the throttle body and see where the sound is comming from? Might sound like kinda simple but ya never know.Same thing happened on my 7th G celica gts after the aem intake. It was just breaking it in. I eventually changed to an injen and the sound came back (not as loud since its a ram air) after about a week.

I dont think its your intake. You would here the same noise when revving at idle if it was. I think its someting to do with the airflow on the car. Check for anything loose in the front. Maybe license plate bracket, or something underneith.

Thanks for all the replies guys!, I am going to go out there and check EVERYTHING out, I have reved it and there is absolutely no sound, but when on the highway LOTS of SOUND, If this is the intake breaking in that sucks because this sound is LOUD and annoying, im going to check the undertray liscence plate all that stuff to see if the whine is from the car, thanks alot guys again, ill post any progress or questions

ARG!, I basically reinstalled the entire AEM and took it out on the highway and SUPERCHARGER noise under light acceleration, its driving me mad, It sounds like i have an 03 cobra but doesnt feel like it, Anyone else have a loud supercharger whine under there hood? could it be something besides the intake, going to put the stock box back on later in the week but its 2 hours away in storage
THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT!!!

The V2 is a tuned intake with two different sized pipes. Mine makes that sound sometimes under light throttle application too. Mine sounds kind of like a "vooop" noise. I'm pretty sure its the vaccum effect or sound waves from the two different sized intake tubes.

Terd, Did you have this sound the whole time you had the intake installed or did it just start up after a while? thanks alot! for the replies, If this is just how the v2 sounds then i guess i just have to get used to it, but its pretty loud and annoying especially cruising speed (70 mph) thanks again
this might be stupid but check the plastic covers under your car, like fender liners (dunno exact material). maybe a clip is missing or something. i had this problem in my type R, took me a week to figure it out
